The top has changed completely in the last three years: Qatar’s Meryal Waterpark rewrote the record books in 2023 with twin slides off a 250-foot tower — a nearly 50% jump over the record held by the infamous, long-demolished Verrückt.

Qatar’s 250-Foot Icon Tower
Vertigo and The Fractionator both launch from the top of Meryal Waterpark’s Icon Tower at 250.5 feet — the tallest water slides ever built, by an enormous margin. Vertigo drops riders through a trapdoor; The Fractionator winds down in an enclosed tube. Nothing else on Earth comes within 80 feet of them.
The Kilimanjaro Asterisk
Brazil’s Kilimanjaro at Aldeia das Águas has long held the record for the tallest water slide drop — 163.7 feet down a 60-degree hillside chute, a record it first set in 1999 and regained in 2016 after Verrückt closed. It’s a hill-supported slide rather than a free-standing tower, which is why it’s tracked separately from Meryal’s towers. And yes, it’s still open. Its closest rival for drop height is now China’s new 50-meter yellow speed slide at Tianmu.
A List the Old Listicles Get Wrong
Verrückt — the 168-foot Kansas City record holder — was demolished in 2018 and the park razed; it appears on no honest 2026 list. Meanwhile famous names like Leap of Faith at Atlantis (~60 ft), Siam Park’s Tower of Power (92 ft), and Ihu’s Breakaway Falls (80 ft) sound tall but don’t come close to today’s top 25. The newest entries — Land of Legends’ Dragonfly Tower twins in Türkiye, Junoon Drop at Saudi Arabia’s new Aquarabia park and the High Tower speed slides at China’s Tianmu Future Valley — all opened in 2026.

China has already moved up the list: High Tower at Tianmu Future Valley Water World in Hangzhou opened in June 2026 on an 80-meter (262-foot) tower with 11 slides, the biggest a yellow speed slide with a 50-meter (164-foot) drop. Brazil’s Acqua Thermas Park and Mexico’s Loco Waterpark also have 170-foot-plus slides on the way.
