From the 33-meter platform, riders look out over the Rhône valley plain toward Mont Ventoux before committing to a drop steep enough to produce a genuine feeling of free fall, with speeds around 80 km/h at the base. The park today presents the slide within its cartoon-jungle retheme — it currently appears on Wave Island’s attraction lineup as the “Chute Palombienne,” a nod to the Marsupilami’s fictional homeland — and the park’s own materials call it the tallest free-fall water slide in Europe.

The park opened in 2015 in Monteux, near Avignon, as one of France’s most ambitious modern water parks, and rebranded to Wave Island the following season. Alongside the Géant it runs a surf-wave pool, racing mat slides and a large lineup of tube slides, marketing itself as the 100% glisse — “all-sliding” — park of Provence.
