The coaster actually began its life elsewhere, running at Dinosaur Beach in Wildwood, New Jersey, from 1997 to 1998, before being relocated to Steel Pier and reopening there in 1999. It operated on the pier for over two decades, even being physically moved further out on the deck in 2017 to make room for a new observation wheel, before finally closing in 2021 and eventually being replaced by the Crazy Crab in 2025.

The Ride Experience
Riders boarded one of nine individual cars, each seating up to four people, before climbing a modest lift hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. What Crazy Mouse lacked in height it made up for in disorientation: the small, mouse-faced cars spun freely on tight turns and sharp drops, giving every lap a slightly different, stomach-churning ride even though the layout never changed.
The full circuit lasted around 90 seconds and delivered roughly 2.5 G’s of force despite a top speed of only about 29 mph, a testament to how much a wild mouse coaster’s abrupt geometry can amplify sensation at low speed. Its compact steel footprint made it an efficient fit for the narrow confines of a boardwalk pier.
A Ride With Two Homes
Before settling on Steel Pier, Crazy Mouse spent its first two seasons at the now-defunct Dinosaur Beach amusement park in Wildwood, New Jersey. When that park closed, the ride found a second life on Steel Pier starting in 1999, becoming one of the pier’s longest-running attractions.
In 2017, operators relocated the coaster to a different spot on the pier to free up space for a new observation wheel, keeping it running for several more years. Crazy Mouse was ultimately removed in 2021, and Steel Pier introduced the Crazy Crab wild mouse coaster on the site in 2025, continuing the pier’s tradition of spinning mouse-style rides.
