Universal’s Islands of Adventure opened on May 28, 1999, at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. Built as Universal’s most ambitious project since the debut of Universal Studios Florida in 1990, the park was designed around the concept of exploration, organizing its experiences into eight distinct themed islands each with its own rides, food, and atmosphere.
The park drew around 9.45 million visitors in 2024, ranking among the top theme parks in the world. A transformative moment came in June 2010 with the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, which sparked a dramatic surge in attendance and set a new standard for immersive theme park design.

Signature Thrills
Islands of Adventure is home to some of the most acclaimed roller coasters in the United States. The Incredible Hulk Coaster, manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard and one of the park’s opening-day attractions in 1999, launches riders to 67 mph through seven inversions on 3,670 feet of track. Jurassic World VelociCoaster, built by Intamin and opened in June 2021, raised the bar with a 155-foot top hat, dual LSM launches reaching 70 mph, and four inversions including a barrel roll directly over the lagoon.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure draws some of the longest lines in the park. Spanning about 5,053 feet of track — making it the longest roller coaster in Florida — the ride features seven launches and an unexpected free-fall drop, sending guests on a story-driven journey through the creatures and characters of the Harry Potter universe.
Eight Islands, One World
The park divides its experiences into eight themed areas: Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Skull Island, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, The Lost Continent, and Seuss Landing. Each island carries its own architecture, ambient soundtrack, and character interactions, creating a sharply varied experience as guests move from one area to the next.
Marvel Super Hero Island delivers high-energy thrills built around comic book icons including Spider-Man and the Hulk, while Seuss Landing offers gentler experiences for younger visitors. Hogsmeade remains the park’s crown jewel, featuring butterbeer, wand interactions, and flagship attractions including Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey alongside Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure.
