The question most parents ask is what their toddler or preschooler can actually ride at Animal Kingdom. The honest answer is that it’s a thin park for small kids in 2026. DinoLand U.S.A., which held the park’s kid-sized rides, has permanently closed, and what’s left is mostly gentle, animal-focused attractions with no height minimum.

This guide is organised by what your child can do, starting with the rides that have no minimum height and then moving up through the height requirements. It covers the rides whose current details I could read on Disney’s official pages, so it is a starting point and not a full inventory. Check the official Walt Disney World website for the definitive current list before you go.

Stats at a Glance

  • Kids’ Area: None at present. DinoLand U.S.A. (home of TriceraTop Spin and The Boneyard) permanently closed on February 2, 2026; Disney says the future Tropical Americas land will include a themed play area for kids
  • First Roller Coaster At: 44 in (112 cm) — Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
  • Companion Rule: “To board an attraction, children under age 7 must be accompanied by a person age 14 or older.”
  • Rider Swap: Yes — Rider Switch

Rides With No Height Minimum

Kilimanjaro Safaris (Any Height) is the headline pick for small kids. You ride an open-air vehicle on a guided tour of a lush African savanna, and Disney describes it as an 18-minute expedition through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve where you spot real animals roaming free. Real giraffes and elephants close up hold a toddler’s attention better than most ride scenery.

Na’vi River Journey (Any Height) is a calm boat ride into Pandora’s glowing bioluminescent rainforest. You glide through caves and into the forest, and you meet the Na’vi Shaman of Songs. It is a slow, dark, gentle ride, so it suits kids who like sights and music over speed.

Wildlife Express Train (Any Height) is a rustic locomotive that crosses the African savanna to Conservation Station. Disney describes it as a 7-minute, 1.2-mile trip past animal care facilities for rhinos, elephants and more. It works as a low-key rest for little legs.

What Opens Up at 36, 40 and 42 Inches

I could not confirm a ride pinned to 36 in (91 cm), 40 in (102 cm) or 42 in (107 cm) on the official pages I read, and I have left out anything I could not verify. The official Walt Disney World site lists the current requirement for each ride, so check it before you rely on these heights.

The first height requirement I did confirm is 38 in (97 cm), for Kali River Rapids, a whitewater raft ride through a jungle in Asia. Disney describes it as skimming across an erupting geyser, navigating fast-moving rapids and plunging down a 20-foot slope, and it warns that you should expect to get wet.

The first roller coaster is Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, which needs 44 in (112 cm). Disney describes it as careening through icy Himalayan peaks on a speeding train while avoiding the mythic Yeti. Its page warns that parts may be scary for children because of loud noises, fast drops, high speeds, dark places and frightening creature effects. Avatar Flight of Passage, a 3D flight on a mountain banshee over Pandora, also needs 44 in (112 cm). Neither is a good match for a preschooler.

Practical Tips for a Day With Small Kids

Measure your child at home in the shoes they will wear, then check the current height for each ride on the official Walt Disney World site before you plan around it. DinoLand U.S.A. has closed, so older guidebooks and maps that send you to TriceraTop Spin, The Boneyard or DINOSAUR are out of date.

There is no dedicated kids’ area right now, so plan the day around the animal attractions. Kilimanjaro Safaris, the Wildlife Express Train and Na’vi River Journey are the easy wins for toddlers. If your group has a mix of ages, Disney’s Rider Switch lets guests take turns on an attraction: “One party waits outside the queue while the remainder of their party waits in the queue.” Disney’s page describes it as appropriate for guests who do not meet boarding requirements. Rider Switch does not lower a ride’s minimum height.

The companion rule is Disney’s park-wide policy: “To board an attraction, children under age 7 must be accompanied by a person age 14 or older.” Kilimanjaro Safaris is an open-air vehicle, so bring sun protection. Kali River Rapids will soak you. For the definitive current ride list and heights, use the official Walt Disney World website.
