Tumbili is a steel 4D Free Spin roller coaster at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia, built by S&S – Sansei Technologies and opened on March 12, 2022. Its name comes from the Swahili word for “monkey,” fitting its home inside the park’s Jungle X-Pedition area, themed around an archeological research facility carved out of the former Safari Village.
Rather than relying on speed or height, Tumbili’s thrill comes from unpredictability: each row of seats spins independently using magnetic technology, so no two rides feel quite the same. The compact layout is stacked in three levels over a narrow footprint and includes two beyond-vertical drops nicknamed “raven drops,” packing a disorienting, tumbling sensation into a ride that lasts under a minute.

The Ride Experience
Riders board one of two single-car trains, each seating 8 people across two rows of 4. As the train climbs and dives through the three-level steel structure, each row spins freely and independently, controlled by magnetic brakes rather than a fixed program, so the rotation speed and direction vary ride to ride.
The signature moments are the two “raven drops,” sections where the track tips past vertical as riders spin, creating a tumbling, weightless sensation before the roughly 55-second ride comes to an end.
Jungle X-Pedition Setting
Tumbili sits within Jungle X-Pedition, a themed area styled as an archeological research outpost with matching dining and retail buildings. The coaster replaced The Crypt, a Top Spin ride that had operated in the same area since 2005, and was announced in August 2021 before opening the following March.
