Riddler’s Revenge opened on April 4, 1998, at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, as the park’s eleventh roller coaster and its single biggest investment to date at a cost of roughly $14 million. Built by Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, it was designed as a steel stand-up coaster themed around the Batman villain the Riddler, fitting in alongside the park’s other DC Comics-branded attractions near Batman: The Ride.
At the time of its debut, Riddler’s Revenge set multiple world records for stand-up coasters, including tallest, fastest, and longest in the category. Riders board upright rather than seated, adding an extra layer of intensity to the coaster’s drops, loops, and high-speed turns through the back of the park.

The Ride Experience
After a 146-foot first drop, Riddler’s Revenge sends riders through a 124-foot vertical loop, two dive loops, an inclined loop, and two corkscrews, all while standing upright in the coaster’s distinctive stand-up trains. The full circuit lasts about three minutes and generates forces up to 4.2 Gs, making the standing position a defining part of the ride’s intensity.
Three trains, each carrying 32 riders across eight cars, keep the line moving with a stated hourly capacity of around 1,610 riders. The layout weaves through the rear section of the park, giving riders repeated airtime moments and tight transitions between inversions.
A Record-Setting Stand-Up Coaster
When it opened in 1998, Riddler’s Revenge was billed as the tallest, fastest, and longest stand-up roller coaster in the world, a title it held for years within that specific coaster category. Its $14 million price tag made it Six Flags Magic Mountain’s largest single investment at the time, reflecting the park’s push to expand its already dense coaster lineup.
The coaster remains one of only a handful of stand-up models B&M ever produced, a design style the manufacturer largely moved away from in later years in favor of other train configurations.
