Launched Through a Decepticon Driller
The ride opens with its best trick: a tire-propelled launch that fires the train from 0 to 40 mph in about two seconds, uphill, through the belly of a Decepticon Driller — a tunnel packed with lighting and special effects. It’s the same dramatic opening beat that made the Hulk Coaster famous, rebuilt for a new generation and a new continent.
Out of the tunnel, the train twists through a zero-g roll and plunges down a 105-foot drop, hitting its 67 mph top speed. From there the layout piles on the inversions — seven in total across 3,700 feet of track — while pulling up to 4 g. Werner Stengel, the most prolific coaster designer in history, handled the engineering design.
Transformers Theming
In the ride’s story, the train itself is the vehicle mode of an Autobot named Coaster, and the queue winds through the Transformers: Metrobase area of the park. Universal announced the Beijing resort project back in 2014, and when the gates finally opened in September 2021, Decepticoaster instantly became the park’s signature thrill ride.
