Aquaman: Power Wave is a launched water coaster at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas, that opened to the public on March 11, 2023. Built by Mack Rides, it holds the distinction of being the first PowerSplash model installed in North America, a design that sends boats rocketing backward and forward along the same stretch of track before a near-vertical plunge into a splashdown pool.

The ride replaced the park’s earlier Aquaman Splashdown attraction and leans into the DC Comics theming of its namesake, pairing a Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) launch system with twin 90-degree vertical spike towers. Riders are launched up one spike facing backward, then reversed and launched up the second spike facing forward, before the boat drops and skims across the water below.

The Ride Experience

Riders board 20-passenger boats arranged four across in five rows before the LSM launch system fires them backward up a 90-degree vertical spike. After a brief weightless pause at the top, the boat reverses direction and launches forward along the same track and up a second spike of equal height, giving riders two distinct launch sensations in one ride.

The finale sends the boat plunging down the spike at speeds up to roughly 62 mph before it carves through a wave of water at the base of the structure, soaking riders in the signature splashdown moment that gives the ride its name.

A First for North America

Aquaman: Power Wave introduced the PowerSplash concept to the United States, a format Mack Rides had previously built in Europe. Six Flags Over Texas developed the attraction in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment on behalf of DC, making it the park’s 14th roller coaster and one of its most technically distinct additions in recent years.
