Co-op Live is a massive indoor arena on Manchester’s Etihad Campus, standing beside the City of Manchester Stadium. Opened in May 2024, it holds the title of the largest indoor arena in the United Kingdom, built specifically to give touring artists a purpose-designed home for arena-scale shows in the north of England.
Designed by architecture firm Populous and developed by Oak View Group, City Football Group, and musician Harry Styles, the venue represented a £365-450 million investment. Manchester band Elbow christened the stage as the opening act after a rocky, headline-making launch marred by technical delays.

A Purpose-Built Home for Live Music
Co-op Live was engineered with music first in mind. Its designers built an almost-square seating bowl with retractable seating across four tiers, deliberately keeping the ceiling relatively low and minimizing the distance from the upper rows to the stage — choices meant to improve both sightlines and acoustics compared to older multipurpose arenas.
The venue also houses 32 bars, restaurants, and lounges, giving it the largest indoor floor space of any venue in Manchester and the kind of hospitality footprint typically reserved for major US arenas.
A Bumpy but Memorable Opening
Co-op Live’s debut did not go smoothly. Power supply failures during test events forced the cancellation of several shows scheduled through April 2024, delaying the venue’s launch and drawing heavy media scrutiny. The arena finally opened successfully on May 14, 2024, with Manchester indie band Elbow performing the first official concert.
Since then, Co-op Live has quickly become one of Britain’s premier event spaces, hosting the MTV Europe Music Awards in November 2024 and UFC 304 in July 2024, alongside a steady lineup of major touring artists.
