An Aquarium Inside a Shipwreck
uShaka opened on April 30, 2004 after three years of construction, designed by the American themed-entertainment firm Creative Kingdom. The concept, wrecked freighters resting on the seabed, was executed convincingly enough that the park won the Themed Entertainment Association’s award for outstanding thematic design in 2005. Inside, seven huge aquarium tanks and about 25 live marine exhibits line the wreck passageways, holding one of the biggest shark collections in the Southern Hemisphere along with rays, groupers, turtles and shoals of Indian Ocean reef fish.
Dolphins, Snorkeling and Dangerous Creatures
Sea World’s open-air dolphin stadium is billed as the biggest dolphinarium in Africa, and daily shows remain the park’s headline act, with penguin and seal presentations alongside. Visitors who want to get wet can enter the snorkel lagoon, where only an acrylic wall separates swimmers from the shark tank, while the separate Dangerous Creatures exhibit covers snakes, spiders and reptiles.
