This list ranks indoor water parks in the United States by the gross square footage of their indoor water park space, using figures published by the operators, Wikipedia (with citations), the manufacturer who built the park, or confirmed through official park sites. Attached outdoor-only sections and total resort square footage (hotel rooms, arcades, rope courses, convention space) are not counted unless a source breaks the water park out separately. Figures below reflect what operators, manufacturers, and reporting outlets had published as of November 2026.

DreamWorks Water Park at American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey, leads by a wide margin at 370,260 square feet (8.5 acres) — more than 147,000 square feet bigger than the next entry, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Round Rock, Texas, at 223,000 square feet. After that, Kalahari’s four U.S. resorts fill four of the next five spots following its Wisconsin Dells flagship’s Aquadome expansion, Michigan’s Bavarian Blast Waterpark at Bavarian Inn Lodge slots in at sixth, and Great Wolf Lodge’s growing roster of properties accounts for most of the remaining rows below.

The Full Ranking

Figures are each park’s own indoor water park square footage, as published by the operator, the manufacturer, or cited on Wikipedia; data reflects the most recent figures available as of November 2026. Bavarian Blast Waterpark is counted at its water-park-only figure of over 140,000 square feet, per manufacturer WhiteWater West, rather than the 170,000-square-foot total Bavarian Inn Lodge markets, which bundles in a separate Family Fun Center (rope course, arcade, bowling, laser tag).

Why DreamWorks Water Park Leads by So Much

DreamWorks Water Park occupies 8.5 acres inside Triple Five’s American Dream megamall, built on a scale closer to an outdoor regional water park than a hotel amenity. Its wave pool, Far Far A Bay, alone covers about 1.5 acres and holds roughly 1.5 million gallons, and the park’s Thrillagascar slides drop riders 142 feet, among the tallest indoor body slides anywhere. It opened October 1, 2020, after years of delays tied to the mall’s broader construction.

The park’s own marketing and several outlets call it the largest indoor water park in the U.S. or in North America, and the two claims get used almost interchangeably. Either way, no other U.S. facility comes close on square footage: the gap to second place (Kalahari Round Rock, at 223,000 square feet) is larger than the entire footprint of all but one Great Wolf Lodge water park on this list.

How the Measure Works, and Where It Gets Fuzzy

Square footage is the standard way resorts advertise water park size, but it is operator-reported and not independently audited, and the definition of “indoor water park” isn’t always clean. Kalahari’s Wisconsin Dells flagship completed an $85 million, 75,000-square-foot expansion called the Aquadome, bringing that resort’s total indoor water park space to 200,000 square feet. The Aquadome is a glass-enclosed space with a retractable roof, which blurs the usual indoor/outdoor line — Kalahari and most coverage describe it as part of the resort’s indoor water park, so it’s counted here, but the roof can open in warm weather.

SoundWaves at Gaylord Opryland is a similar case: the resort splits its total into 111,000 square feet of indoor water attractions and a separate 106,000-square-foot outdoor section, and only the indoor portion is used here. Bavarian Blast Waterpark at Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth, Michigan, shows the same problem from the opposite direction: Bavarian Inn’s own promotion cites 170,000 square feet for the whole 2025 expansion, but that figure folds in a separate Family Fun Center with a three-story rope course, bowling, laser tag and an arcade. WhiteWater West, the manufacturer that built the attraction, describes the water park itself as spanning “over 140,000 square feet” and the largest indoor water park in Michigan — the narrower, water-park-only figure used in this ranking. Great Wolf Lodge, which operates more U.S. indoor water parks than any other chain, doesn’t publish a size for every property (Cincinnati/Mason OH, Williamsburg VA, Kansas City KS, and several others have no confirmed figure), so those locations are left off this list rather than estimated.

Notable Entries and What This Means for Planning a Trip

Ten of the seventeen rows belong to Great Wolf Lodge, whose water parks cluster between 56,000 and 126,000 square feet — smaller individually than the big single-destination parks, but spread across more U.S. markets than any competitor, including fairly new openings in Naples, Florida (2024) and Mashantucket, Connecticut (2025). Kalahari, by contrast, builds fewer but much larger resorts, and all four of its U.S. locations now rank in the top five. Several parks on this list cater to adults as well as families: Kalahari’s resorts in Round Rock, Wisconsin Dells and the Poconos each have their own 21-and-up swim-up bars (The Grotto, the Mud Hut, and Paxton Grotto, respectively), and Bavarian Blast Waterpark, which opened in March 2025, added its own adults-only swim-up bar, the Bootlegger Bar — reported as Michigan’s first, not a feature unique to this list.

One property to watch: Kalahari’s fifth U.S. resort, in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, is scheduled to open its 175,000-square-foot indoor water park on November 12, 2026. It isn’t included in the ranking above because it wasn’t open as of this writing, but once operating it would rank fifth, ahead of Kalahari Sandusky (173,000 square feet) and just behind the newly expanded Wisconsin Dells resort. For a winter trip, bigger square footage generally means more slide variety and shorter lines relative to crowd size, but it’s worth checking each resort’s site directly, since indoor water parks expand and rebrand often.

Biggest Indoor Water Parks in the United States FAQs

What is the biggest indoor water park in the United States?

DreamWorks Water Park at American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is the biggest at 370,260 square feet (8.5 acres). It’s sometimes marketed as the largest in North America rather than specifically the U.S., but no other American facility comes close in square footage either way.

How is indoor water park size measured?

Operators publish the square footage of their water park space, which is the standard measure used here. It is self-reported and not independently audited, and parks that bundle in other amenities can inflate the headline number: Bavarian Blast Waterpark in Frankenmuth, Michigan, is marketed at 170,000 square feet, but that figure includes a separate Family Fun Center, while the manufacturer that built it puts the water park alone at over 140,000 square feet.

Is a bigger indoor water park opening soon that could change this ranking?

Yes. Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is opening a fifth U.S. resort in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, on November 12, 2026, with a 175,000-square-foot indoor water park. Once open, it would rank fifth on this list, ahead of Kalahari’s Sandusky, Ohio location and just behind the newly expanded Kalahari Wisconsin Dells resort.
