UFCU Stadium is the football home of the Texas State Bobcats, sitting on the university’s campus in San Marcos, Texas. Known as Bobcat Stadium for decades after it opened in 1981, the venue took on its current name in May 2024 when University Federal Credit Union signed a 15-year, $23 million naming rights deal, one of the largest in Texas State athletics history.

The playing surface itself carries its own tribute, named Jim Wacker Field after the coach who led the Bobcats to back-to-back NCAA Division II national titles in 1981 and 1982. Through a series of expansions, the stadium grew from a modest campus field into a 28,388-seat facility capable of hosting Pac-12 Conference football.

From Bobcat Stadium to UFCU Stadium

For most of its history the venue was simply known as Bobcat Stadium, growing in stages rather than all at once. A West Side Complex opened in 2009 adding premium seating and luxury suites, and a $33 million expansion in 2012 closed in the north end zone and removed the surrounding track, turning the facility into a dedicated football-only stadium. The current UFCU name arrived in 2024 as part of a long-term naming rights partnership with the credit union.

More recent work has kept the stadium evolving, with chair-back seating added to the east side and a south end zone club completed in 2025. Each phase has pushed the stadium further from its 1981 roots toward the modern facility Bobcats fans see today.

Gameday in San Marcos

On fall Saturdays, UFCU Stadium fills with Texas State fans just off Interstate 35 between Austin and San Antonio, giving the Bobcats a recruiting and gameday edge in a fast-growing part of the state. The stadium’s loudest moment on record came in September 2016, when 33,133 fans packed in to watch Texas State host Houston.

The field underneath it all, Jim Wacker Field, keeps the stadium’s history visible even as the surrounding structure modernizes, honoring the coach whose back-to-back national titles put Bobcat football on the map.
