Maverik Stadium is the outdoor home of Utah State Aggies football, sitting on the university’s campus in Logan, Utah at an elevation of roughly 4,710 feet. The venue opened its gates in 1968 as Romney Stadium, named for longtime coach and athletic director Dick Romney, and was officially dedicated the following year.
In 2015, Utah State partnered with Maverik Inc. on a long-term naming rights deal that rebranded the facility as Maverik Stadium, coinciding with a major renovation completed in 2016. The playing surface itself, Merlin Olsen Field, honors the Pro Football Hall of Fame lineman and Aggie legend.

From Romney Stadium to Maverik Stadium
The stadium’s footprint grew in stages over its history. A 1980 expansion added roughly 10,000 seats to the south bowl, pushing capacity up to about 30,257, before NCAA rules on seat spacing and later renovations brought the stadium down to today’s figure near 25,513.
The 2015 naming rights agreement with Maverik Inc. arrived alongside a $36 million renovation finished in 2016, which refreshed concourses, seating, and amenities while keeping the stadium’s traditional north-south orientation.

Utah State moved Aggies football into the Pac-12 Conference starting with the 2026 season after 13 years in the Mountain West, giving Maverik Stadium a new slate of conference opponents on Merlin Olsen Field.
