Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is London’s largest annual Christmas event, transforming a stretch of Hyde Park along Serpentine Road into a seasonal fairground every winter. It began as a small Christmas funfair in 2005, then grew into its current large-scale format when The Royal Parks partnered with AEG Live and PWR Events to relaunch the event on 11 December 2007.
Today the event draws roughly 2.5 million visitors each winter, with more than 100 rides and attractions imported from fairs across Europe spread across themed zones including the Traditional Funfair, Thrill Zone, Alpine Adventure, Circus Zone, and Santa Land. Everyone needs a timed entry ticket, with off-peak slots offered free or near-free and standard or peak time slots priced higher.

Rides and Attractions
Rides at Winter Wonderland are grouped into themed areas rather than scattered randomly, letting visitors move from gentle funfair classics to taller thrill rides as they explore. The Giant Wheel, a 60-metre Ferris wheel, anchors the skyline, while the Thrill Zone has included towering rides such as a Star Flyer swing tower and a freefall drop tower reaching roughly 85 metres.
The event also brings in large touring rides from continental European fairs, including the Wilde Maus XXL wild mouse coaster and the Munich Looping coaster, both set up temporarily for the season and dismantled once the event closes in early January.
Ice Rink, Markets, and Christmas Traditions
Beyond the rides, Winter Wonderland is built around its ice rink, laid out around Hyde Park’s permanent bandstand and billed as the UK’s largest temporary outdoor ice rink. Nearby, the Magical Ice Kingdom offers a walkthrough gallery of ice sculptures, while the Bavarian Village recreates a German Christmas market with food, drink, and the Great Hall beer tent.
Santa Land and Zippo’s Mega Dome circus round out the festive offerings, giving families a mix of market shopping, live entertainment, and seasonal atmosphere alongside the rides during the event’s run from mid-November through early January.

Ride with your glasses on and keep them. Many parks allow glasses on rides if they're strapped, so check the ride rules first.
