Troy is a wooden roller coaster at Toverland in Sevenum, the Netherlands, that opened on June 29, 2007. Built by American manufacturer Great Coasters International (GCI), it was only the company’s second installation in Europe, following Thunderbird at PowerPark in Finland, and it introduced GCI’s signature out-and-back wooden thrills to Dutch riders for the first time.
Themed around the legend of the Trojan horse, Troy anchors Ithaka, the Ancient Greek-themed area that became Toverland’s first outdoor section. The coaster is best known for a striking layout quirk: the train blasts directly through the station building at speed midway through the ride, a moment that still catches first-time riders off guard nearly two decades after opening.

The Ride Experience
Troy’s chain lift climbs to just under 32 meters before dropping riders 30.7 meters into a fast, twisting out-and-back layout typical of GCI’s wooden coasters. With airtime-heavy hills, tight turnarounds, and that unexpected pass through the station structure, the ride packs a lot of variety into under two minutes.
Two 12-car trains, each seating 24 riders two-across, keep the line moving at a capacity of around 850 riders per hour, making Troy one of the more efficient wooden coasters in Europe despite its length.
Records and Legacy
As of 2018, Troy remained the tallest, fastest, and longest wooden roller coaster in the Netherlands, a title it has held since opening. Its arrival helped establish Toverland as a serious contender among European theme parks, expanding the park beyond its original indoor dark-ride focus into large-scale outdoor thrill rides.
