Hair Raiser is a steel floorless roller coaster at Ocean Park in Hong Kong, opened on December 8, 2011, as the centerpiece thrill ride of the park’s Thrill Mountain section. Built by Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, it was the twelfth floorless coaster constructed worldwide and remains the first floorless coaster and the fastest roller coaster in Hong Kong.
Riders enter through a large smiling face facade loosely inspired by Sydney’s Luna Park before climbing a chain lift hill that leads into a pre-drop and a 180-degree turn toward the cliff’s edge. From there, the ride charges through a vertical loop, a dive loop, a zero-g roll, and an Immelmann, packing four inversions into roughly 850 meters of track and about 60 seconds of airtime and G-forces along Hong Kong Island’s dramatic coastline.

The Ride Experience
After boarding one of the seven-car, floorless trains that seat riders with their legs dangling free, guests ascend the lift hill for a pre-drop before the coaster plunges into a sweeping 180-degree curve. The layout then strings together a vertical loop, a dive loop, a zero-g roll, and an Immelmann inversion, delivering four inversions in a fast-paced sequence that builds toward roughly 4 Gs at points along the circuit.
The course also includes an ejector airtime hill, where an on-ride photo is typically captured, before the train winds back through Thrill Mountain to the brake run. The entire ride lasts about a minute, but its combination of a floorless sensation and cliffside setting overlooking the South China Sea gives it an outsized reputation among Hong Kong thrill-seekers.

When it debuted in 2011, Hair Raiser broke new ground as Hong Kong’s first floorless roller coaster and its fastest coaster overall, a title it has held since opening.
