The I-4 Coaster Crawl runs from Busch Gardens Tampa Bay on Florida’s Gulf Coast to Fun Spot America near International Drive in Orlando, covering eight parks over 8 days with about 3 hours of total driving split into short hops along and near Interstate 4. It’s built around the parks that sit closest together in Central Florida, so the days are built around riding rather than driving.

This itinerary suits coaster riders who’d rather spend a week in line than in the car, including families splitting time between Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, Universal’s three Orlando parks, two Disney parks and an independent park. Below is the stop-by-stop order with drive times, a day-by-day plan, the one new coaster under construction on this route for 2027, and notes on timing and tickets.

Stop by Stop

Here’s what makes each park worth the stop and which coasters to prioritize.

1. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay — Tampa, FL

Busch Gardens anchors the trip with three distinct coaster styles: Iron Gwazi, a 206 ft (62.8 m) steel-wood hybrid that hits 76 mph (122 km/h) on a 91-degree first drop; SheiKra, a 200 ft (61.0 m) dive coaster with a vertical drop and an underground tunnel finish; and Montu, a 150 ft (45.7 m) inverted coaster with 7 inversions dating to 1996.

Plan a full day here — the park is large and spread across themed sections. Kumba closed permanently on August 2, 2026, after 33 years, and is being replaced by a coaster called Kumba’s Revenge, but no manufacturer, layout or opening date has been announced, so don’t expect it running in 2027. Stay in Tampa, close to the park, before the drive east.

2. SeaWorld Orlando — Orlando, FL

SeaWorld’s lineup leans toward big B&M coasters: Mako, a 200 ft (61.0 m) hypercoaster reaching 73 mph (117 km/h); Kraken, a 153 ft (46.6 m) floorless coaster with 7 inversions; and Ice Breaker, a compact 93 ft (28.3 m) launch coaster that fires riders both forward and backward.

Half a day covers the coasters; a full day lets you add the marine-life exhibits. Stay in the International Drive/SeaWorld area, which keeps you close to the next three stops as well.

3. Universal Studios Florida — Orlando, FL

The two current must-rides are Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which opened in 2014 and blends dark-ride show scenes with coaster launches, and Revenge of the Mummy, an indoor steel coaster that launches forward and backward through a show-and-effects-filled tomb. (Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster was rethemed into Trolls’ Trollercoaster in 2024, so it no longer runs under that name.)

A half to full day is enough if you’re coaster-focused. Universal added daily park-to-park access across all three Universal Orlando parks starting with 2026 tickets — useful since this stop and the next two are all Universal properties. Stay in the International Drive or Universal CityWalk area.

4. Universal’s Islands of Adventure — Orlando, FL

This stop has the densest thrill lineup on the route: VelociCoaster, a 155 ft (47.2 m) launched coaster hitting 70 mph (113 km/h) with 4 inversions; Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, which debuted with seven separate launches, more than any coaster in the world at the time; and The Incredible Hulk Coaster, a 110 ft (33.5 m) launched coaster reaching 67 mph (108 km/h).

Budget a full day, and ride Hagrid’s and VelociCoaster early — both draw long lines by midday. It’s a short walk or quick shuttle ride between this park and Universal Studios Florida, so lodging in the same CityWalk/I-Drive area works for both.

5. Universal Epic Universe — Orlando, FL

Stardust Racers is the headline coaster here: a dual-launch racing coaster in Celestial Park with two 5,000 ft tracks reaching 133 ft (40.5 m) and 62 mph (100 km/h) and one inversion per track; it opened May 22, 2025. Epic Universe also added three gentler family coasters at opening — Mine-Cart Madness in Super Nintendo World, Curse of the Werewolf in Dark Universe, and Hiccup’s Wing Gliders in Isle of Berk — but Stardust Racers is the one worth planning around.

A full day lets you pair Stardust Racers with the park’s other headline attractions across its five themed worlds rather than rush through. Stay in the same International Drive corridor used for the other Universal stops.

6. Magic Kingdom — Lake Buena Vista, FL

Magic Kingdom’s coasters are gentler but still worth riding: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, a family mine-train coaster through the Seven Dwarfs’ diamond mine; Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which reopened May 3, 2026, with new track and a lowered 38-inch height requirement; and The Barnstormer, a Vekoma junior coaster with a chain lift hill, 30 ft (9.1 m) tall, in Storybook Circus.

A full day lets you cover the rest of the park too. Ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train first — it draws the longest waits of the three. Stay in the Lake Buena Vista area, close to the rest of Walt Disney World.

7. Disney’s Hollywood Studios — Lake Buena Vista, FL

Slinky Dog Dash is a dual-launch family coaster reaching 50 ft (15.2 m) and 40 mph (64 km/h) through Toy Story Land. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster reopened May 26, 2026, as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, an indoor launch coaster retelling the ride with the Muppets’ Electric Mayhem after its prior Aerosmith-themed version closed that March.

Half a day covers both coasters; a full day lets you add Star Wars and Toy Story Land’s other attractions. Stay in the Lake Buena Vista area, same as the Magic Kingdom night.

8. Fun Spot America — Orlando, FL

This independent park closes the trip with a change of pace: White Lightning, a 69.7 ft (21.2 m) wooden out-and-back coaster from Great Coasters International reaching 44.3 mph (71.3 km/h), Freedom Flyer, a Vekoma suspended family coaster, and Sea Serpent, a gentler family coaster.

Half a day is plenty — it’s a compact park best paired with the go-karts. Stay in the International Drive area for easy access on the way to the airport.

New for 2027 on This Route

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is scheduled to open at Universal Studios Florida in 2027 on the former site of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. It’s announced as an Intamin multi-launch coaster with spinning vehicles themed to movie cars, including an announced 170 ft vertical spike over Universal CityWalk. It is not open yet and should not be expected to be running early in the 2027 season — check Universal’s site before building a day around it. Elsewhere on the route, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has confirmed Kumba’s Revenge will replace the closed Kumba, but hasn’t announced a layout, manufacturer or opening date, so it’s a watch-for-later rather than a 2027 plan item.

When to Go

January through early March and September through early November are the calmest windows: school is in session, Florida’s heat and humidity ease up outside summer, and most parks run shorter hours with shorter lines than their summer or holiday peaks. Hurricane season (June through November) can still bring storms that close outdoor coasters for stretches, so build a little flex into the back half of the trip if you’re traveling in the fall.

2027 operating calendars for several of these parks weren’t published as of this writing. Confirm each park’s 2027 calendar and hours before locking in dates, especially around holiday and event season changes at Busch Gardens, SeaWorld and the Universal and Disney parks.

Road Trip Tips

On the pass side, SeaWorld Orlando’s Platinum annual pass covers both SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay since they’re sister United Parks & Resorts properties, which lines up with stops 1 and 2 of this trip; confirm 2027 pass benefits before buying. Universal’s 2026 multi-day tickets added daily park-to-park access across Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, which covers stops 3 through 5 — check whether that policy carries into 2027. Disney tickets are separate and priced per park per day.

All eight stops sit in the Eastern time zone, so there’s no time-zone adjustment on this route. Pack for humidity and sudden afternoon thunderstorms even outside hurricane season, and keep a light rain jacket in the car — Florida’s parks run coasters through light rain but close them for lightning.

The I-4 Coaster Crawl FAQs

How many days do you need for The I-4 Coaster Crawl?

Plan on 8 days — one per park — since the drives between stops are all under 2 hours and most are 30 minutes or less. You could compress Universal’s three parks into 2 days if you’re short on time, but 8 days lets you ride without rushing.

Should you start the trip in Tampa or Orlando?

Start in Tampa at Busch Gardens, as laid out here. It’s the one stop that requires a real drive (about 1 hr 30 min to Orlando), so getting it out of the way first means every remaining drive on the trip is 30 minutes or less.

When is the best time of year for this trip?

January to early March and September to early November tend to have the shortest lines and most comfortable weather. Confirm each park’s 2027 operating calendar before booking, since hours and event schedules shift year to year.

What’s the one coaster not to skip on this trip?

VelociCoaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure — a 155 ft (47.2 m) launched coaster that hits 70 mph (113 km/h) with 4 inversions in a layout that chases the Jurassic World raptor paddock.
