Stage AE sits on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, wedged between Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park, as one of the city’s busiest live entertainment complexes. The venue opened on December 3, 2010, following groundbreaking that April, and launched with two sold-out shows from Pittsburgh native Girl Talk.

What sets Stage AE apart is its split design: an indoor music hall, an intimate club room, and an open-air outdoor amphitheater all operate under one roof system, giving promoters flexibility to book anything from a 400-capacity club show to a 5,500-person lawn concert on the same property.

The Venue Experience

Stage AE’s layout gives it an unusual amount of range for a mid-sized venue. The outdoor amphitheater hosts touring rock, pop, and hip-hop acts under the open sky with the Pittsburgh skyline as a backdrop, while the enclosed music hall handles shows better suited to a roof overhead. The Club, a smaller room built into the same complex, books more intimate acts and after-parties.

The complex was modeled on the indoor/outdoor format pioneered by Express Live! in Columbus, Ohio, and was designed by WD Partners with Continental Building Systems serving as general contractor. That shared design lineage shows in the reversible stage system, which lets crews flip bookings between the indoor hall and outdoor lawn without rebuilding from scratch.

A North Shore Fixture

Since opening, Stage AE has become a regular stop for touring musicians and also hosts non-music events, including WWE’s NXT brand and Ring of Honor wrestling cards. Its North Shore location puts it within walking distance of both Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park, and it connects directly to Pittsburgh’s light rail system at the North Side station.

The venue is owned by PSSI Stadium LLC alongside Columbus-based Continental Real Estate and operated by PromoWest Productions, the same promotion company behind its Columbus sister venue.
