Oslo Spektrum is a multi-purpose indoor arena in downtown Oslo, Norway, standing beside Oslo Central Station in the heart of the city. Opened in December 1990 and designed by LPO Arkitektkontor, the venue is instantly recognizable for its exterior mosaic of nearly 400,000 tiles incorporating fragments of prints by Norwegian artist Rolf Nesch, a design that later earned it the Oslo City Council’s award for architectural achievement.
Built originally with ice hockey in mind, Oslo Spektrum quickly grew into Norway’s premier venue for concerts, awards shows, and international broadcasts. It seats up to 9,700 for concerts and can hold as many as 11,500 when standing room is added, making it one of the largest indoor gathering spaces in the Norwegian capital.

A Stage for the World’s Biggest Names
Since opening, Oslo Spektrum has hosted a wide range of touring artists, including Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift, alongside the annual Norwegian Idol finals and major music awards shows. Its flexible seating and central location, just steps from Jernbanetorget transit hub, have made it the default choice for large-scale entertainment in Oslo since the early 1990s.
The arena also made international history by hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996, bringing global television audiences to the venue and cementing its reputation as one of Scandinavia’s key event spaces.
Home of the Nobel Peace Prize Concert
For two decades, Oslo Spektrum served as the annual home of the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, an internationally broadcast celebration honoring that year’s Peace Prize laureate, before the event later moved on to other venues.
The arena closed for concerts in June 2025 as part of the larger Spektrumkvartalet redevelopment, a roughly 3.2 billion NOK project. The concert arena itself reopened on September 1, 2026, with the surrounding expansion, including a new congress hall and cultural stage, due for completion in fall 2028.
