Echostage opened in 2012 in the Langdon neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., transforming a former warehouse into a hybrid nightclub and concert hall. Built on the site once occupied by earlier venues DC Tunnel and DC Star, the club was launched by GLOW, the city’s longtime electronic music promotions company, and quickly became the largest nightlife concert venue in the nation’s capital.

With more than 30,000 square feet of space and room for about 3,000 guests, Echostage built a reputation on state-of-the-art sound and elaborate visual production, drawing touring DJs and artists like Tiësto, Avicii, Calvin Harris, Hardwell, and David Guetta. In 2020, electronic music giant Insomniac acquired the venue along with its operator Club Glow, folding Echostage into one of the country’s biggest dance-music promotion networks.

From Warehouse to World No. 1

Echostage rose from an industrial building in Northeast D.C. that had previously housed earlier clubs DC Tunnel and DC Star. After GLOW took over the space and reopened it as Echostage in 2012, the venue held the title of D.C.’s largest nightlife concert space until The Anthem opened in 2017.

The club steadily climbed DJ Mag’s reader-voted Top 100 Clubs rankings, placing in the top ten every year since 2017, finishing second in 2019 and third in 2020, before being voted the world’s number one club in 2021 — the first American venue ever to top that list.

Sound, Production, and Headliners

Echostage’s draw has always centered on production value: a custom sound system and large-scale lighting and visual rigs built to rival festival mainstages. That setup has hosted sets from top-tier electronic acts including Tiësto, Avicii, Hardwell, Calvin Harris, and David Guetta, alongside a broader slate of touring artists.

Beyond regular club nights, the venue has also been used to host events for local law enforcement, reflecting its scale and flexibility as one of D.C.’s largest indoor gathering spaces.
