SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium opened on May 4, 2015, as one of the anchor attractions at the entertainment complex now known as ICON Park on International Drive. Operated by British attractions giant Merlin Entertainments, the same company behind the SEA LIFE chain found in cities worldwide, the Orlando location was built to give visitors an indoor, walk-through alternative to the city’s larger marine parks.

Inside the roughly 25,000-square-foot building, guests wind through about 30 themed displays housing more than 5,000 sea creatures, from sharks and rescued green sea turtles to seahorses, stingrays, and a giant Pacific octopus. The signature feature is a 360-degree underwater tunnel, billed as the only one of its kind in Florida, which lets visitors walk completely surrounded by open-water species.

Exploring the Exhibits

The aquarium’s layout moves guests through roughly nine themed zones before reaching the ocean tunnel, including a coastal rockpool where visitors can touch anemones and other tide-pool residents. Along the way, tanks spotlight jellyfish, tropical reef fish, and native Florida species, giving the attraction a mix of local and global marine life in a compact indoor footprint.

Because the whole experience is self-guided and indoors, it tends to run shorter and more family-focused than Orlando’s larger marine parks, making it a popular stop for visitors pairing it with other ICON Park attractions like the observation wheel and Madame Tussauds.

Part of the ICON Park Complex

SEA LIFE Orlando shares its site with other independently operated attractions under the ICON Park banner, a 20-acre entertainment district that opened the same month in 2015. Unlike a traditional gated theme park, ICON Park charges no general admission; tickets are purchased separately for the aquarium and each neighboring attraction.

As part of the global SEA LIFE network, the Orlando location also ties into Merlin’s broader marine conservation and education initiatives, with staff-led talks and signage throughout the exhibits aimed at younger visitors.
