Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is a drive-thru safari park set on Texas Hill Country ranchland between San Antonio and Austin. Opened on June 1, 1984, the ranch let visitors stay in their own vehicles while giraffes, zebras, and antelope wandered right up to the windows, turning a family road trip into a rolling wildlife encounter.
The land itself carries a history that predates the animals. It’s a certified Texas Land Heritage Property, recognized by the state for having stayed in continuous agricultural use by the same family for more than a century, first as cattle and goat range before owners Ray and Trudy Soechting reimagined it as an exotic wildlife preserve.

The Drive-Thru Experience
Unlike a traditional zoo, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is built around a self-guided driving route where animals approach vehicles directly, drawn by feed visitors can buy on-site. Species roaming the open range include addax, eland, greater kudu, springbok, wildebeest, elk, yaks, and several deer varieties, alongside giraffes, zebras, ostriches, emus, and llamas.
Beyond the driving loop, the ranch added a walk-through area called Monkey’n Around, featuring gibbons and lemurs alongside a children’s playground, plus a Walk-A-Bout zone with birds, primates, and a family of giraffes for closer encounters on foot.
From Ranchland to Wildlife Preserve
Before it became a safari park, the property functioned as working agricultural land for generations, a history formally recognized through its Texas Land Heritage Property certification. Owners Ray and Trudy Soechting sourced the ranch’s animal population from a mix of zoos, exotic animal breeders, and importers to build out the collection.
The park operates independently of the nearby, similarly named Natural Bridge Caverns, a distinction Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is careful to note since the two attractions are often confused despite sharing part of a name and general location.
