The question behind most searches is what a toddler or preschooler can ride at SeaWorld Orlando, and what changes when they grow an inch or two. The park’s answer is Sesame Street Land, which is built for small children, followed by a jump to the bigger family rides at 42 in (107 cm). Some height bands in between are thin.

This guide is organised by what your child can do. First come the rides and play areas where the height rule is built around a supervising companion. Next comes what opens at 36 in (91 cm) and above, including the first roller coaster. Last are practical tips for the day. Heights and companion wording come from SeaWorld Orlando’s own ride pages and its Accessibility Guide. Rules change, so check the official ride list before you go: https://seaworld.com/orlando/rides/

Stats at a Glance

  • Kids’ Area: Sesame Street Land
  • First Roller Coaster At: 38 in (97 cm) — Super Grover’s Box Car Derby
  • Companion Rule: “Supervising Companion”: someone who meets all ride requirements and is 14 years of age or older (Accessibility Guide)
  • Rider Swap: Not confirmed. I found no rider switch or child swap policy on the official pages I read. Ask an Ambassador at the ride.

Rides With No Height Minimum

SeaWorld Orlando’s ride list shows no height for the Sesame Street Land rides below. The park’s Accessibility Guide words the rule as a height OR a supervising companion, so a small child does not need to reach a minimum height. The guide defines a supervising companion as someone who meets all ride requirements and is 14 years of age or older. Cookie Drop! is the one with a higher threshold, 48 in (122 cm) or accompanied.

Sunny Day Carousel is a colourful, classic carousel and the easiest first ride. The guide says guests must be “at least 42 inches tall or accompanied by a supervising companion.” It adds that hand-held infants may ride on the bench seat if accompanied by a supervising companion. 42 in is 107 cm.

Slimey’s Slider is a ship-themed ride that rocks back and forth and gently rotates through Oscar’s compost collection. Abby’s Flower Tower lifts and spins riders in flower pots for a bird’s-eye view of Sesame Street Land. Both use the same wording: “at least 42 inches tall or accompanied by a supervising companion.” Hand-held infants are not permitted on either.

Cookie Drop! is Cookie’s Mini-Drop Tower, a gentle bounce up and down. The guide says guests must be “at least 48 inches tall or accompanied by a supervising companion at least 14 years old.” 48 in is 122 cm. No hand-held infants.

Sky Tower, in the main park, is a slow-moving rotating elevator capsule with views over the park. The guide says guests must be “48 inches tall or accompanied by a supervising companion.” The ride list notes additional fees apply. The guide says guests with a fear of heights or enclosed spaces should not ride.

Rubber Duckie Water Works and Rosita’s Harmony Hills in Sesame Street Land are play areas (splashing fountains; musical instruments and climbing zones). Waterfront Water Works in the main park also shows no height on the ride list. I have not read separate rules for these, so check signs on the day.

What Opens Up at 36, 40 and 42 Inches

36 in (91 cm): Elmo’s Choo Choo Train, an interactive bell-ringing, horn-honking train ride where you look for butterflies, caterpillars and the Twiddlebugs. The guide says guests must be “at least 36 inches tall or accompanied by a supervising companion.” Hand-held infants are not permitted.

Between 36 and 40 in: Super Grover’s Box Car Derby is the park’s first roller coaster for small children, and it opens at 38 in (97 cm). The park’s page calls it a family-friendly steel roller coaster with hills, turns and small dives. Its wording is “Guests must be at least 38 inches tall to ride. Guests between 38 inches tall and 41 inches tall must be accompanied by a supervising companion.” 41 in is 104 cm. This is the one to aim for with a preschooler, because it is a real coaster at a low height and is in Sesame Street Land.

39 in (99 cm): Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice is a story-driven Arctic adventure. Riders are suspended over an Arctic landscape with drops, turns, swoops and lifts, and it ends at a real Arctic animal habitat with beluga whales and walruses. The guide says “Guests must be at least 39 inches tall to ride. Guests between 39 inches and 48 inches must be accompanied by a supervising companion.” 48 in is 122 cm. The park lists it as a family thrill, and the guide warns of forces and speeds that may cause distress, so it is a step up from Sesame Street Land.

40 in (102 cm): I did not find a ride with a verified 40 in requirement on the official pages I read, so nothing is listed for this height.

42 in (107 cm): Penguin Trek is a launch coaster in the family thrill category. You board a snowmobile, reach up to 43 miles per hour, and finish at a penguin habitat. The ride page shows a 42 in (107 cm) minimum. The Accessibility Guide adds that shorter riders in the lower part of the range must be accompanied by a supervising companion seated beside them, but the park’s sources give different upper limits for that band. Read the posted sign and ask an Ambassador.

Also at 42 in (107 cm) are Journey to Atlantis and Infinity Falls, both soaking rides. Journey to Atlantis takes you through dark, watery passageways in a sunken city before a plunge. Infinity Falls is a raft ride ending in a tall drop into churning whitewater. For both, the park says guests between 42 and 48 in (107 and 122 cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion at least 14 years old. Expect to be soaked on both.

Beyond this range: Ice Breaker needs 48 in (122 cm), and Mako, Kraken, Manta and Pipeline: The Surf Coaster need 54 in (137 cm).

Practical Tips for a Day With Small Kids

Measure your child at home first. The Accessibility Guide says height requirements are posted at each ride and that a height check station is available at the front of the park. Use it before you spend time in a queue.

Start in Sesame Street Land. It has a nursing facility, a childcare facility with a quiet room, and first aid next to the restrooms, all listed in the Accessibility Guide.

Plan for a second adult, or an older sibling who is 14 or older, so a small child can ride with a companion. Guests 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the park, according to the FAQ. On rides that require one, the companion must meet all ride requirements. Not every parent will want to ride Journey to Atlantis or Infinity Falls, both of which soak you.

I could not find an official rider switch or child swap policy on the pages I read. Ask an Ambassador at the ride entrance about options for splitting a group before you queue.

SeaWorld Orlando rents single and double strollers first-come, first-served at the rental shop near Guest Services. Hand-held infants are not permitted on several Sesame Street Land rides, so plan for a bench or a spectating adult.

Honest take: Sesame Street Land is well set up for toddlers and preschoolers, and Super Grover’s Box Car Derby and Expedition Odyssey give a small child something to work towards. Between the Sesame rides and 42 in, the choice of bigger rides is thin. Penguin Trek, Journey to Atlantis and Infinity Falls all begin at 42 in (107 cm).
