Parque Warner Madrid opened on April 6, 2002, as Warner Bros. Movie World Madrid, built on a 700,000 m² (70-hectare, about 173-acre) site in San Martín de la Vega, 23 km southeast of the Spanish capital. Six Flags initially operated the park under a management deal with Spanish investment groups, but that arrangement ended in late 2004 and the park was rebranded Parque Warner Madrid in 2006. Today it is owned and operated by Parques Reunidos, with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences retaining a 5% stake and licensing the Warner Bros. and DC characters that theme the park.
The park is organized into five themed areas — DC Super Heroes World, Hollywood Boulevard, Movie World Studios, Old West Territory, and Cartoon Village — spread across roughly 43 attractions, including seven roller coasters. Its two opening-day headliners, the Bolliger & Mabillard-built Superman: La Atracción de Acero and Shadows of Arkham (originally Batman la Fuga), remain the park’s signature thrill rides more than two decades later, and an adjoining water park, Parque Warner Beach, opened in June 2014.

DC Super Heroes and Opening-Day Thrills
Superman: La Atracción de Acero, a Bolliger & Mabillard floorless coaster, opened alongside the park in 2002 and reaches about 62 mph (100 km/h) across seven inversions, including a vertical loop, an Immelmann, and interlocking flatspins. Its neighbor, the inverted coaster now called Shadows of Arkham, has worn three names since 2002 — Batman la Fuga, then Batman: Arkham Asylum, then its current identity from 2023 — and is a mirrored clone of the Six Flags staple Batman: The Ride, reaching 49.7 mph over five inversions.
Growth Beyond the Original Gates
Since opening, the park has added attractions like the launched coaster Batman Gotham City Escape (2023) and the giant inverted boomerang Stunt Fall, while retaining family-oriented rides such as the wooden Coaster-Express and the Road Runner-themed Correcaminos Bip Bip. The 2014 addition of Parque Warner Beach, a separate water park on the same site, expanded the property into a multi-day destination rather than a single theme park.
