Height Requirements by Ride Type
The tallest requirement at Carowinds is 54 inches (137 cm), reserved for the park’s biggest steel thrill rides: Fury 325, Afterburn, Vortex, Thunder Striker, and Electro-Spin, none of which offer a companion exception. Two more 54-inch rides do allow shorter riders through with a supervising companion — Ricochet (54 in solo / 44 in, 112 cm with a companion) and Do-Si-Do (54 in solo / 42 in, 107 cm with a companion).
One step down, the 52-inch (132 cm) tier covers Copperhead Strike, WindSeeker, and Rock ‘N’ Roller. Surf Club Harbor, the wave pool in Carolina Harbor, uses a swim-safety threshold rather than a hard ride minimum: barefoot guests need to be at least 52 inches (132 cm) to skip a life jacket, while guests between 42 and 52 inches (107-132 cm) must wear a life jacket and stay with a supervising companion.
The busiest tier, 48 inches (122 cm), holds most of the park’s mid-size coasters and thrill rides. Hurler, Carolina Cyclone, Carolina Goldrusher, The Flying Cobras, Air Racers, Zephyr, Flying Ace Balloon Race, Charlie Brown’s River Raft Blast, Barracuda Blasters, and Storm Surge Body Slides all require a solo 48 inches with no companion exception. A handful of other 48-inch attractions do allow a shorter companion rider: Snoopy’s Racing Railway and Kaleidoscope (48 in solo / 36 in, 91 cm with a companion), PEANUTS Pirates (48 in solo / 40 in, 102 cm with a companion), and Hover & Dodge, The Airwalker, and Wind Star (48 in solo / 42 in, 107 cm with a companion).
Woodstock Express, the park’s family wooden coaster, sits alone at 46 inches (117 cm) solo, dropping to 40 inches (102 cm) with a supervising companion.
At 44 inches (112 cm), families will find Kiddy Hawk and Slingshot, along with Mountain Gliders, which drops to 36 inches (91 cm) with a companion.
The 42-inch (107 cm) tier is Carowinds’ largest family-ride grouping: Carolina Skytower, Ripcord, Gyro Force, Gear Spin, Boo Blasters on Boo Hill, and The Grand Carousel on the dry side, plus Boogie Board Racer, Coastal Currents, Storm Surge Tube Slides, and Tidal Wave Bay in Carolina Harbor.
Hurricane Falls, Carolina Harbor’s raft ride, requires 40 inches (102 cm).
