Lenovo Center is the multipurpose arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, that has served as home ice for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes since it opened on October 29, 1999. Built at a cost of about $158 million, the venue also hosts NC State Wolfpack men’s basketball and welcomes more than 150 events a year, from concerts to conventions.

The arena has worn several names over its history, starting as the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena before becoming RBC Center, then PNC Arena, and finally Lenovo Center in 2024 under a new naming-rights partnership. Despite the rebrands, it remains best known for one night in June 2006, when the Hurricanes clinched their first Stanley Cup on home ice.

A Storied Home Ice

Since opening in 1999, the arena has anchored Raleigh’s sports and entertainment scene, giving the Carolina Hurricanes a dedicated home after years of playing in Greensboro. Its biggest moment came on June 19, 2006, when the Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in Game 7 to capture the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship in front of a home crowd.

Beyond hockey, the venue doubles as the home court for NC State Wolfpack basketball and regularly hosts touring concerts, family shows, and conventions, drawing well over a million visitors most years.

A Name That Keeps Changing

The building has carried four names since construction: it opened as the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena, became RBC Center in 2002, switched to PNC Arena in 2012, and was renamed Lenovo Center in 2024 as part of a new long-term naming-rights agreement. Fans and locals have long nicknamed it simply ‘the Caniac Cave’ or ‘the barn,’ a name that has outlasted every corporate sponsor on the marquee.
