From HOK Sport to a Global Design Leader
Populous built its reputation on stadium projects that prioritize atmosphere and civic identity as much as engineering. Its 1992 debut, Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, used a red-brick facade and an old B&O Railroad warehouse as a backdrop, breaking from the multipurpose concrete ‘cookie-cutter’ stadiums of the 1970s and influencing nearly every ballpark built since.
That design philosophy carried into later landmark projects, including the rebuilt Yankee Stadium in New York, which opened in 2009, and the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, later converted into the home of West Ham United.
