Pandemonium is a steel spinning roller coaster at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. It opened on April 16, 2005 as “Mr. Six’s Pandemonium,” a nod to the park chain’s quirky ad-campaign mascot, before being simplified to just Pandemonium once that branding was retired a couple of seasons later.

Built by German manufacturer Gerstlauer, the ride uses the company’s Spinning Coaster model, a format Six Flags would go on to install at a handful of its other parks. Unlike traditional coasters that follow a fixed path, Pandemonium’s four-passenger cars rotate freely on their axis, so no two rides ever play out exactly the same way.

The Ride Experience

What sets Pandemonium apart from a typical family coaster is that the spinning is entirely unpowered. As cars roll through curves, dips, and banked turns, momentum and the shifting weight of riders cause each car to rotate independently, meaning a sharp left-hand turn might send one car spinning clockwise while the car behind it spins the opposite way.

The layout itself stays modest by coaster standards, with a top speed of 31 mph and a track just over a quarter-mile long, making it an approachable ride for guests who want the novelty of spinning without the intensity of a launch coaster or a ride full of inversions.

A Shared Design Across Six Flags Parks

Pandemonium at Six Flags New England was the first of its kind to open under the Six Flags banner, and the chain later installed the same Gerstlauer Spinning Coaster model at other properties, including Six Flags St. Louis and Six Flags Over Texas, both of which originally opened under the Tony Hawk’s Big Spin name before later adopting the Pandemonium branding. Each version keeps the same core mechanics, though exact dimensions can vary slightly between installations.

Several other Six Flags parks have also used the Pandemonium name for entirely different attractions, such as pendulum and flat rides, so not every ride sharing the name is the same type of coaster. The Massachusetts version has kept its original Gerstlauer spinning-coaster hardware since day one.
