Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster is a compact family roller coaster tucked into Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Built by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma, the ride first opened on January 24, 1993, as Gadget’s Go Coaster, themed to the Rescue Rangers inventor Gadget Hackwrench and her scrapyard of spare parts.
In March 2023, following a refurbishment tied to the broader reimagining of Mickey’s Toontown, the attraction reopened with new character figures of Chip, Dale, Gadget, and Zipper and was rebranded as Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster. The layout and hardware remained largely the same, preserving one of Disneyland’s few genuine roller coasters small enough for young riders to enjoy alongside adults.

The Ride Experience
Riders climb aboard hollowed-out acorn-shaped cars, each built to seat one adult and one child, before winding through roughly 44 seconds of tight turns and small drops around a junior-sized steel track. The layout weaves through Gadget’s junkyard-inspired set pieces, including oversized everyday objects reimagined as machinery, giving the coaster an outsized sense of scale despite its modest stats.
Because it tops out under 30 feet tall and around 22 mph, the GADGETcoaster is designed as an entry-level thrill, with a minimum height requirement far lower than Disneyland’s marquee coasters like Space Mountain or Incredicoaster. It remains one of the few attractions in Toontown built around genuine coaster mechanics rather than a dark-ride format.
From Gadget’s Go Coaster to a New Theme
The attraction’s original identity centered on Gadget Hackwrench from the 1989 animated series Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and it opened alongside the rest of Mickey’s Toontown in January 1993. When Toontown closed for a multi-year refurbishment that concluded in March 2023, Disney used the opportunity to update the ride’s theming with new figures of Chip, Dale, Gadget, and Zipper, renaming it Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster to spotlight the whole Rescue Rangers cast rather than Gadget alone.
A sister version of the coaster, still operating under the original Gadget’s Go Coaster name, opened at Tokyo Disneyland in 1996 and runs a longer 56-second cycle with two trains instead of one.
