OVO Hydro is a multi-purpose indoor arena on the Scottish Event Campus beside the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Designed by Foster + Partners and built at a cost of around £125 million, the distinctive domed venue opened on September 30, 2013, with an inaugural concert by Rod Stewart, and quickly became one of the busiest entertainment venues in the United Kingdom.
Originally sponsored as the SSE Hydro, the arena was renamed OVO Hydro in October 2021 under a new energy-company sponsorship deal. Beyond concerts, it has hosted major sporting events including netball and gymnastics during the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, cementing its role as Scotland’s premier large-scale indoor venue.

A Landmark on the Clyde
The arena’s shell-like domed roof, inspired by natural forms, has made it one of Glasgow’s most recognizable modern landmarks. Sited within the wider Scottish Event Campus, it was built to give the city a large-scale venue capable of hosting international touring acts alongside major sporting competitions.
During construction, a welding-related fire broke out on the roof in June 2013, but the project still finished on schedule for its September opening, a testament to the scale and urgency of the build.
A Global Touring Hotspot
OVO Hydro has regularly placed among the busiest arenas on the planet by ticket sales, at one point ranking as the second-busiest venue in the world behind Madison Square Garden. It draws well over a million visitors in a typical year across concerts, comedy shows, and family entertainment.
The venue also stepped into combat sports history by hosting UFC’s first-ever event in Scotland in 2015, broadening its reputation well beyond music.
