Mohegan Sun Arena opened in October 2001 on the grounds of the Mohegan Sun casino resort in Uncasville, part of Montville, Connecticut. Built by the Perini Building Company, the arena debuted with an NBA preseason exhibition between the Boston Celtics and the Washington Wizards, and it has since grown into one of the busiest mid-sized arenas in the United States.
Configurable for basketball, lacrosse, and full-house concerts, the arena seats roughly 9,323 for basketball, about 7,074 for lacrosse, and up to approximately 10,000 for touring concerts. Its blend of casino-resort convenience and a flexible 30,000-square-foot exhibition floor has made it a magnet for A-list musicians, comedians, and combat-sports promotions alike.

A Hub for Major Touring Acts
Since opening, Mohegan Sun Arena has hosted a wide range of major touring artists across genres, with acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Kenny Chesney, and Lady Gaga appearing on its stage over the years. The venue’s resort setting lets concertgoers combine a show with dining, gaming, and an overnight stay, which has helped it build a loyal regional following across the Northeast.
The arena’s reconfigurable seating bowl allows promoters to scale the room for anything from an intimate comedy set to a sold-out arena tour, a flexibility that trade publications have credited for its consistently strong ticket sales relative to other venues its size.
Beyond Music: Sports and Special Events
Mohegan Sun Arena has also served as the home court of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun since 2003 and hosted several WNBA All-Star Games. It welcomed early UFC events, including UFC 35 and UFC 45, along with years of Bellator MMA cards and WWE programming.
The arena’s exhibition space has hosted everything from the Miss America pageant (2019-2022) to the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction, underscoring its role as a multi-purpose entertainment hub rather than a single-use concert hall.
