Kraken Arena FAQ
Have the Kraken always played at Climate Pledge Arena?
Yes. The arena reopened in October 2021, and the Kraken played its first sports event on October 23, 2021, a 4–2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks in which Vince Dunn scored the first goal. Their first win there came three nights later, 5–1 over Montreal. Delays in the renovation pushed the team’s first preseason games to WHL arenas in Spokane, Everett and Kent.
Is Climate Pledge Arena the same building as KeyArena?
Partly. A $1.15 billion redevelopment from 2018 to 2021 replaced the old arena but kept its roof and exterior walls, which date to the 1962 World’s Fair and are protected landmarks. That is why Climate Pledge Arena is sometimes called the oldest arena in the NHL.
Who else plays at Climate Pledge Arena?
The WNBA’s Seattle Storm, the PWHL’s Seattle Torrent and Seattle University men’s basketball. The old building was the longtime home of the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics.
Where do the Kraken play now?
At Climate Pledge Arena at Seattle Center, north of downtown. It seats 17,151 for hockey. The team practices at the Kraken Community Iceplex at Northgate.
