Wild Arena FAQ
Have the Wild ever played anywhere else?
No. The arena opened in September 2000, in time for the Wild’s first NHL season, and it has been their only regular home.
What was on the site before?
The St. Paul Civic Center, which was demolished to make room for the new arena. Saint Paul had tried to land the Hartford Whalers and Winnipeg Jets, but the old Civic Center stood in the way of both deals.
Why was Xcel Energy Center renamed?
The Xcel Energy naming deal ended after 25 years. In June 2025 the Wild announced a new deal with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, which runs the Grand Casino properties, and the arena became Grand Casino Arena on September 3, 2025.
Where do the Wild play now?
At Grand Casino Arena on West Kellogg Boulevard in Saint Paul. It seats 17,954 for hockey and is also home to the PWHL’s Minnesota Frost.
