49ers Stadium FAQ

Where did the 49ers play before Levi’s Stadium?

At Candlestick Park in San Francisco, from 1971 through 2013. Before that they spent their first 25 seasons, 1946 to 1970, at Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park.

How many stadiums have the 49ers had?

Three regular homes: Kezar Stadium, Candlestick Park and Levi’s Stadium. They have also played a few home games elsewhere: one at Stanford Stadium in 1989 after the Loma Prieta earthquake, and three at State Farm Stadium in Arizona in 2020 because of COVID-19 restrictions in the Bay Area.

Why did the 49ers leave San Francisco for Santa Clara?

In 2006 the team ended talks with the city of San Francisco about a new stadium at Candlestick Point and turned to Santa Clara, where it already had its headquarters and training facility. Levi’s Stadium opened there in 2014, and Levi Strauss & Co. bought the naming rights in 2013.

Is Candlestick Park still standing?

No. The 49ers played their last game there on December 23, 2013, and the stadium was demolished in 2015. Kezar Stadium was torn down in 1989 and rebuilt as a 10,000-seat stadium that is still used today.

Where do the 49ers play now?
