The Broncos have only ever had two regular home stadiums, and both carry the Mile High name. They played at Mile High Stadium, a minor league ballpark expanded again and again for football, from their first AFL season in 1960 through 2000, then moved next door to the stadium now called Empower Field at Mile High in 2001.
Here is each home in order, with the years the Broncos played there, what made each one matter and what stands on the site today. Each stadium links to our full guide.

Broncos Stadium FAQ
Where did the Broncos play before Empower Field at Mile High?
At Mile High Stadium, from 1960 through the 2000 season. It opened in 1948 as Bears Stadium for the Denver Bears baseball team and was renamed Mile High Stadium in 1968, when the city bought it. In the AFL years the Broncos also played occasionally at the University of Denver’s Hilltop Stadium, including a 1967 preseason win over the Detroit Lions, the first by an AFL team over an NFL team.
How many stadiums have the Broncos had?
Two: Mile High Stadium (1960–2000) and Empower Field at Mile High (2001–present). The newer stadium has also been called Invesco Field at Mile High (2001–2011), Sports Authority Field at Mile High (2011–2018) and Broncos Stadium at Mile High (2018–2019).
Is the old Mile High Stadium still standing?
No. It closed after the Colorado Rapids’ 2001 season and was taken down piece by piece in 2002 rather than imploded. The site is now a parking lot for Empower Field, with a miniature replica of the old stadium and a marker where home plate used to be.
Are the Broncos building a new stadium?
Yes. In September 2025 the team chose Burnham Yard, a 58-acre former rail yard in downtown Denver, as the site for a privately financed stadium with a retractable roof. It is scheduled to be ready for the 2031 season, when the Broncos’ lease at Empower Field runs out.
Where do the Broncos play now?
At Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, which opened in 2001 and seats 76,125 for football. Beyond Broncos games, it was where Barack Obama accepted the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.
