Bengals Stadium FAQ
Where did the Bengals play before Paycor Stadium?
At Riverfront Stadium, which they shared with the Reds, from 1970 through 1999. Their first two seasons, 1968 and 1969, were at Nippert Stadium on the University of Cincinnati campus.
How many stadiums have the Bengals had?
Three: Nippert Stadium, Riverfront Stadium (renamed Cinergy Field in 1996) and Paycor Stadium, which opened as Paul Brown Stadium.
Why did the Bengals start at Nippert Stadium?
Paul Brown chose Cincinnati after the city, Hamilton County and the Reds agreed to build a stadium for both baseball and football on the riverfront. It had to be ready for the 1970 season, so the expansion Bengals used Nippert Stadium in the meantime.
Is Riverfront Stadium still standing?
No. It was imploded on December 29, 2002. Great American Ball Park, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, and new development now cover the site. Nippert Stadium is still the home of Cincinnati Bearcats football.
Where do the Bengals play now?
At Paycor Stadium in downtown Cincinnati. It opened in 2000 as Paul Brown Stadium, seats 65,515 and also holds the team’s headquarters. A 2026 lease extension keeps the Bengals there through 2036.
