The Mavericks have had just two home arenas since joining the NBA in 1980. They played their first 21 seasons at Reunion Arena downtown and moved to the American Airlines Center in Victory Park in 2001, sharing both buildings with the Dallas Stars.
Here is every home in order, with the years the Mavericks played there, what made each one matter and what stands on the site today. Each arena with a ThrillZing guide links to it.

Mavericks Arena FAQ
Where did the Mavericks play before the American Airlines Center?
At Reunion Arena, from their first game in 1980 through the 2000–01 season. One 1984 playoff game was moved to SMU’s Moody Coliseum because a tennis tournament had the arena.
How many arenas have the Mavericks had?
Two: Reunion Arena (1980–2001) and the American Airlines Center (since 2001).
Why did the Mavericks leave Reunion Arena?
By 1998 the Mavericks and the Stars wanted to replace the aging and undersized Reunion Arena. Dallas voters approved a hotel tax and a rental car tax to cover part of the cost, the teams paid the rest, and the American Airlines Center opened in 2001.
Is Reunion Arena still standing?
No. It closed in 2008 and was demolished in November 2009. The site is slated to become apartments.
Where do the Mavericks play now?
At the American Airlines Center in Victory Park, just north of downtown Dallas. It opened in 2001, seats 19,200 for basketball and is shared with the Stars. The Mavericks’ lease runs through 2031.
