NRH2O Family Water Park opened in 1995 in North Richland Hills, Texas, becoming the first municipal water park in the state and one of the first city-owned water parks in the country. What began as a modest facility with three body slides, a river, and a wading pool has grown into a 17-acre destination that draws large crowds from across North Texas each summer.
Owned and operated by the City of North Richland Hills, the park is funded through ticket and concession revenue rather than property taxes. Today it packs 23 attractions into its footprint, ranging from high-speed body slides to relaxed float trips, and it recently debuted its newest headline ride, making it a staple summer destination for families across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The Ride Experience
For 25 seasons the park’s signature attraction was the Green Extreme, a Master Blaster-style water coaster built for the 1998 season that launched riders uphill along roughly 1,161 feet of track and 81 feet of elevation change. Green Extreme closed for good after the 2023 season and is no longer part of the park’s current lineup; it was replaced by Nitro Blast, a ProSlide dueling water coaster that officially opened on June 27, 2026, letting side-by-side riders race each other through the course.
Beyond the new coaster, guests can still choose from body slides like Sidewinder, Riggamaroll, Thunder, and Blue Sky, along with tube rides such as Viper, Accelerator, Purplepalooza, and Double Dipper. For a slower pace, the wave pool NRH2Ocean and the lazy river Endless River give visitors a place to cool off between slide runs, while Beachside Bay offers a sand-volleyball and lounge area.
Family-Friendly Amenities
NRH2O has kept several of its original guest perks intact since 1995, including free parking and free cooler access, alongside a dedicated children’s play area called Frogstein’s Splashatory and a shallow Tadpole Swimming Hole for younger visitors.
The park also hosts seasonal evening events branded Splash After Dark, featuring discounted admission, live entertainment, and specialty food offerings during select nights of the summer.
