Everland is South Korea’s largest theme park, spread across roughly 250 acres in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, about an hour south of Seoul. Owned and operated by Samsung C&T Corporation, the park traces its roots to 1976, when it opened as Yongin Farmland with a nature-park and safari concept before being rebranded Everland for its 20th anniversary in 1996.

Today Everland draws close to 6 million visitors annually, making it one of the most-visited amusement parks in Asia. Alongside its rides, the resort includes the Caribbean Bay water park, which opened in July 1996 as South Korea’s first combined indoor-outdoor water park, and the Zootopia safari attraction, reflecting the site’s original wildlife-park roots.

Stats at a Glance

  • Location: Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea
  • Operator: Samsung C&T Corporation
  • Opened: April 18, 1976 (as Yongin Farmland; renamed Everland in 1996)
  • Size: About 250 acres
  • Annual visitors: About 5.9 million (2023)

The Ride Experience

Everland’s headline attraction is Monimo Rush, a wooden coaster built by Intamin that opened in 2008 under the name T Express. It stands about 184 feet tall, reaches roughly 65 mph, and features a 77-degree drop that made it the steepest wooden coaster in Asia and, for years, one of the tallest wooden coasters anywhere. In April 2026, Samsung renamed the ride Monimo Rush after its Monimo financial app, following a 2024 partial retracking by Rocky Mountain Construction.

Beyond its signature coaster, Everland is organized into themed zones spanning global cultures, alongside the Zootopia safari area where guests view lions, tigers, and other animals from ride-through vehicles, a nod to the park’s original farmland and safari concept from the 1970s.

History and Growth

The park began as Yongin Farmland in 1976, combining agricultural exhibits with an early safari attraction. Steady expansion through the 1980s and 1990s added rides and infrastructure, and the 1996 rebrand to Everland coincided with the debut of Caribbean Bay, which broke attendance records for a South Korean water park in its first year. Decades later, Everland remains the country’s top theme park by attendance, a centerpiece of the broader Everland Resort alongside Caribbean Bay and other facilities.
