History and Ownership
Oceans of Fun was conceived by Lee Derrough, then General Manager of Worlds of Fun, in 1977. After groundbreaking in June 1981, the park opened the following May at a cost of $7.25 million under Hunt Midwest ownership. Cedar Fair L.P. acquired it in 1995, and the park later came under the Six Flags umbrella following Cedar Fair’s 2024 corporate merger.
In April 2026, EPR Properties purchased the park from Six Flags, with Enchanted Parks stepping in as the operating company. The property continues to welcome guests seasonally, with admission bundled alongside access to the neighboring Worlds of Fun amusement park, preserving a partnership that has defined Kansas City summer entertainment for over four decades.
