Ocean Breeze Waterpark sits just two miles south of the Virginia Beach oceanfront, and it holds a title no other local attraction can claim: the only full-scale water park in the Hampton Roads region. What started in 1974 as a small slide operation called Jungle Falls, with just three mat slides, has grown over five decades into a sprawling family destination with more than 30 slides, rides, and attractions.
Along the way the park was renamed Wild Water Rapids, then Ocean Breeze Festival Park, before settling into its current identity as Ocean Breeze Waterpark. Today it spreads across roughly 10 acres and is watched over by Hugh Mongous, a 45-foot smiling gorilla mascot who has become a local landmark in his own right.

The Ride Lineup
Ocean Breeze has partnered with slide manufacturer ProSlide since 2002, when it installed Virginia’s first ProBOWL 30. Since then the park has added several more ProSlide attractions, including a CannonBOWL 30, a TORNADO 12, and the MAMMOTH family raft ride, known for its back-to-back curves and drops. The newest headline attraction, Operation Splashdown, arrived in 2021 as a six-story family raft ride.
Beyond the individual slides, the park’s signature Neptune’s Revenge complex bundles multiple body and tube slides together, while the quarter-mile Adventure River gives guests a slower-paced way to cool off across the property.
A Half-Century of Growth
Few water parks on the East Coast can trace an unbroken operating history back to the 1970s, but Ocean Breeze has done exactly that, evolving through several names and expansions while staying rooted at the same General Booth Boulevard site. The park now includes four quick-service restaurants and two bar-and-grill locations, along with free parking, free inner tubes, and free sunscreen for guests.
The park also courts groups directly, offering discounted rates for parties of 15 or more, along with dedicated packages for schools, camps, and corporate outings.
