Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark opened in January 2018 in Grand Prairie, Texas, as a publicly owned attraction built by the City of Grand Prairie and operated by a private management company as part of the EpicCentral development. At about 80,000 square feet, it is one of the largest indoor water parks in the country and is covered by an enormous retractable roof system, letting the park convert between an open-air summer waterpark and a climate-controlled indoor destination for cooler months.

Designed with slide packages from manufacturer WhiteWater West, Epic Waters built its reputation on ride firsts rather than just size. Its main slide tower houses nine waterslides, including several attractions billed as industry firsts when the park opened, alongside a wave pool and a FlowRider Double surf simulator. USA Today has repeatedly ranked it among the top indoor water parks in the nation, cementing its status as a year-round draw for the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The Ride Experience

Epic Waters’ main slide tower packed in nine waterslides using WhiteWater West’s ride systems, mixing body slides, tube rides, and family raft attractions. Among the standouts were Lasso Loop, described as the nation’s tallest indoor Aqualoop body slide, and Yellowjacket Drop, billed as the first indoor combination Boomerango and Constrictor tube ride. Aquanaut, an indoor double-rider Aquasphere inner tube ride, rounded out the tower’s headline attractions. Beyond the tower, guests could catch waves on a FlowRider Double surf simulator or relax in the park’s wave pool.

A Roof Built for Every Season

What set Epic Waters apart from most American indoor water parks was its retractable roof, engineered by OpenAire with roughly 40 automated polycarbonate panels spanning the slide tower and main pool deck. On warm days, the panels opened to turn the facility into an open-air park; when weather turned, they closed to keep the park running as a fully indoor, climate-controlled attraction. That flexibility helped Epic Waters operate as a year-round destination rather than a seasonal one, a key reason it repeatedly earned national rankings from USA Today as a top indoor water park.
