Happy Valley Beijing opened on July 29, 2006, in the Chaoyang District of eastern Beijing, becoming the flagship park in the Happy Valley chain built and operated by Beijing OCT (Overseas Chinese Town). Spread across roughly 56 hectares (about 138 acres), the park groups its rides and shows into themed lands built around a lost-civilization storyline, including Atlantis, the Aegean Sea, Lost Maya, and Shangri-La.

The park houses more than 40 attractions, including six roller coasters, alongside a seven-screen IMAX theater and shopping areas. Its coaster lineup ranges from the Bolliger & Mabillard flying coaster Crystal Wing to the towering B&M hyper coaster Flight of the Himalayan Eagle, giving Happy Valley Beijing one of the more varied thrill-ride rosters among China’s OCT parks.

The Ride Experience

Happy Valley Beijing’s six roller coasters span several different styles. Flight of the Himalayan Eagle, a Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coaster, is the park’s tallest thrill ride at about 157.5 feet with a top speed near 60 mph. Crystal Wing, also from B&M, is a flying coaster that sends riders soaring face-down through the layout, while Extreme Rusher uses S&S Worldwide launch technology to fire trains out of the station. Vekoma supplies two more of the park’s coasters: the suspended looping Golden Wings in Snowfield and the family-friendly Jungle Racing mine train, rounding out a lineup built for a wide range of riders.

Themed Lands and Setting

Rather than a single storyline, Happy Valley Beijing organizes its rides, shows, and dining around several themed zones, including Atlantis as the park’s central hub, the Greek-inspired Aegean Sea, the Ant Kingdom, and areas themed to the Maya civilization and Tibetan-influenced Shangri-La. The mix of large-scale themed architecture with a dense thrill-ride lineup has helped the park stay among China’s higher-attendance gate parks, drawing roughly 4 million visitors annually according to industry attendance reports.
