Abyssus is a steel launched roller coaster at Energylandia in Zator, Poland, built by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma as an extended version of its Shockwave model. It opened on July 14, 2021 as the headlining attraction of the park’s new Aqualantis area, becoming Energylandia’s 17th roller coaster and one of the most anticipated additions to the park’s growing lineup.

Themed around the lost city of Atlantis and named for a mythical ocean god (from the Latin word for “depth”), Abyssus uses two linear synchronous motor (LSM) launches to send its trains through a twisted top hat, a vertical loop, a batwing double inversion, and a corkscrew across more than 1,300 meters of track.

The Ride Experience

Abyssus begins with a lower-speed launch and a short twisting section before riders enter a second, more powerful LSM launch that propels the train to a top speed of around 62 mph. The train then climbs a twisted top hat roughly 126 feet tall before diving into the first of four inversions, a vertical loop, followed by an airtime-filled twisted hill that dives beneath the station.

The ride continues into a batwing double inversion and a corkscrew before returning to the station, with the full circuit lasting around two minutes across three 16-rider trains.

Theming and Setting

Abyssus anchors Energylandia’s Aqualantis area, themed around the rediscovered, long-submerged city of Atlantis. According to the park’s storyline, the coaster’s structure represents a pump station built by explorers who uncovered the ancient city, and the ride takes its name from a supposed ocean god tied to the Latin word for “depth.”
