Music Hall of Williamsburg, located at 66 North 6th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is one of New York City’s most storied mid-size music venues. Originally opened in the spring of 2001 under the name Northsix, it was among the first venues to anchor Brooklyn’s now-thriving live music scene and earned recognition as the Village Voice’s Best New Rock Club in 2002.
The Bowery Presents acquired and renovated the space in early 2007, rechristening it Music Hall of Williamsburg. Architects Brian Swier and Michael Costantin redesigned the interior, creating a 650-capacity standing-room hall with bar areas on each floor and lounge-style cocktail seating. Operated today under AEG — which purchased The Bowery Presents in 2017 — the venue hosts shows on most nights of the week and has built a global reputation for booking intimate surprise performances by artists who typically fill arenas.

A Brooklyn Institution Built for Intimate Shows
From its earliest days as Northsix, the venue attracted cutting-edge independent and alternative acts at a time when live music was still largely concentrated in Manhattan. After The Bowery Presents took over in 2007, the newly renamed Music Hall of Williamsburg became a flagship of Brooklyn’s concert ecosystem. Elliott Smith performed some of his final New York shows here in June 2003, cementing the hall’s place in rock history.
Beginning in the 2010s, the venue became known for a distinctive phenomenon: world-famous artists choosing its intimate 650-person room for unannounced or small-scale shows. Kendrick Lamar played a surprise set in 2016, Harry Styles performed here in 2020, Deftones took the stage in 2023, and Coldplay staged a rare club-scale show in 2024 — each event turning the modest Williamsburg block into a flashpoint for music fans citywide.
The End of an Era on North 6th Street
On December 17, 2025, The Bowery Presents announced that Music Hall of Williamsburg will close at its current location at the end of 2026, after the building’s owners declined to renew the venue’s lease. The news prompted an outpouring of tributes from artists and fans who credit the room with shaping their musical lives.
Despite the impending closure, the hall continues to operate a full show schedule through 2026, giving audiences one last extended run to experience one of Brooklyn’s defining cultural spaces. Its legacy — as an incubator for emerging acts and an unlikely host for some of the biggest names in music — ensures it will remain a touchstone in the history of New York’s live music scene.
