The Ziggo Dome is Amsterdam’s largest indoor concert arena, opened on June 24, 2012, in the Bijlmermeer neighborhood adjacent to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Designed by Benthem Crouwel Architekten, the venue holds up to 17,000 concertgoers and was specifically engineered for amplified live music, with state-of-the-art acoustics and sightlines optimized from every seat.

Named after Dutch cable TV provider Ziggo, the arena’s striking exterior is wrapped in around 840,000 LEDs capable of displaying full-motion video. Since opening, the Ziggo Dome has welcomed a who’s-who of global superstars — from Beyoncé and Adele to Coldplay and BTS — cementing its reputation as one of the world’s premier concert destinations.

World-Class Acoustics and Design

Built between 2009 and 2012 with live music as the primary goal, the Ziggo Dome’s square footprint measures 90 by 90 meters and stands 30 meters tall — a shape that gave acoustic engineers a clean canvas to optimize sound distribution throughout the bowl. Every seat benefits from excellent sightlines, a rarity in arenas of this scale.

The LED-clad exterior, featuring around 840,000 individual lights, turns the building into a dynamic visual spectacle visible across Amsterdam’s southeastern skyline. Inside, the venue is flexible enough to be reconfigured for other events including tennis, korfball, and ice skating, making it one of Europe’s most versatile large-format venues.

Global Prestige and Iconic Performances

By 2017 the Ziggo Dome had risen to become the fifth busiest concert venue in the world, trailing only Madison Square Garden, SSE Hydro, Manchester Arena, and the O2 Arena in London. Artists including Beyoncé, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Madonna, BTS, and Pearl Jam have all performed here, drawing fans from across Europe.

The venue’s location next to Bijlmer ArenA station — served by trains, metro, and buses — makes it one of the most accessible arenas on the continent. Since 2014 the Ziggo Dome has also hosted its own awards ceremony, the Ziggo Dome Awards, honoring standout artists who performed at the venue each year.
