Exit/In is a live music landmark at 2208 Elliston Place in Nashville, Tennessee, just west of downtown near Centennial Park and Vanderbilt University. Founded in 1971 by Owsley Manier and Brugh Reynolds, the club began as an intimate listening room seating around 200 and expanded to its current 500-person capacity in the early 1980s, anchoring what locals call the Elliston Place ‘Rock Block.’

Over more than five decades, Exit/In has hosted a remarkable cross-section of American music history—early sets by a then-unknown Jimmy Buffett, frequent stand-up appearances by Steve Martin before his national breakthrough, and performances by Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, Muddy Waters, R.E.M., and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Music historians have ranked it alongside the Troubadour in Los Angeles and the Bottom Line in New York as one of the most pivotal popular music clubs in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s.

Photo by Rachel Claire on Pexels

Stats at a Glance

Location: 2208 Elliston Place, Nashville, TN 37203

Type: Rock club / live music venue

Opened: 1971

Capacity: 500

Founders: Owsley Manier and Brugh Reynolds

Famous for: Early sets by Jimmy Buffett and Steve Martin; featured in Robert Altman’s 1975 film Nashville

Historic Status: Nashville Historical Landmark; National Register of Historic Places (March 2023)

From Listening Room to Rock Club

Exit/In opened its doors in 1971 as a genre-agnostic listening room, booking everything from bluegrass and jazz to stand-up comedy. Steve Martin played the stage regularly throughout the 1970s as he developed the act that would make him a household name, and Jimmy Buffett used early Exit/In shows to build a fanbase before signing a major record deal. By the early 1980s the club had expanded to 500 capacity and settled into its identity as Nashville’s premier rock venue, providing a home for both local up-and-comers and nationally touring artists.

The venue changed ownership roughly 25 times over its history. In late 2022, longtime operators Chris and Telisha Cobb departed, and AJ Capital Partners—which had purchased the building in 2021—assumed full operations on January 1, 2023. After light renovations to the bathrooms, green room, and exterior mural wall, Exit/In reopened in the spring of 2023 and has continued booking independent rock, indie, and alternative acts.

Cultural Footprint Beyond the Stage

Exit/In’s influence reaches well beyond its 500-person room. The venue appears in Robert Altman’s acclaimed 1975 film Nashville, cementing its place in American cinema as a symbol of the city’s underground music culture. Sting is famously photographed wearing an Exit/In shirt on the back cover of The Police’s 1980 album Zenyatta Mondatta, giving the club an unexpected moment of global visibility.

In March 2023, Exit/In was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in recognition of its exceptional impact on Nashville’s alternative music scene—a rare honor for a working rock club. It also holds official Nashville Historical Landmark status, reflecting the city’s acknowledgment that the venue’s story is inseparable from the broader history of American popular music.

Exit/In FAQs

Where is Exit/In located?

Exit/In is at 2208 Elliston Place, Nashville, TN 37203, near Vanderbilt University and Centennial Park, on the stretch known as the Elliston Place ‘Rock Block.’

What is Exit/In’s capacity?

The venue holds up to 500 people. It originally seated around 200 when it opened in 1971 and was expanded in the early 1980s.

Did Exit/In close permanently in 2022?

No. The club closed temporarily in November 2022 when longtime operators Chris and Telisha Cobb departed. AJ Capital Partners took over operations on January 1, 2023, and Exit/In reopened in spring 2023 with a new in-house booking team.

Terminal 5 is a multi-level live music venue located at 610 West 56th Street in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Opened in October 2007 by concert promotion company The Bowery Presents, the 3,000-capacity space quickly became one of the city’s premier mid-size stages, bridging the gap between intimate club shows and arena spectacles.

Housed in a converted building with a storied past — the space previously operated as nightclub Club Exit before being shuttered by the Drug Enforcement Administration in 2003 — Terminal 5 was reimagined as a live music destination. Its soaring 40-foot ceilings, three floors of audience space with two balconies, exposed brick walls, and a rooftop bar have made it a favorite for touring artists and New York City concertgoers alike.

Photo by Joseph Bobadilla on Unsplash

Stats at a Glance

Location: 610 W 56th St, Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, NYC

Type: Multi-level indoor music venue

Opened: October 2007

Capacity: 3,000 (2,800 standing)

Floors: 3, with two balcony levels

Ceiling Height: 40 feet

Operator: The Bowery Presents (AEG Presents)

Famous for: Mid-size NYC concerts, rooftop bar, industrial aesthetic

The Venue Experience

Terminal 5’s three-floor layout sets it apart from most New York City venues. The ground floor offers a standing-room pit close to the stage, while two balcony levels provide elevated sightlines for every ticket holder. Beneath the venue’s signature 40-foot ceilings, a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system ensures audio quality matches the caliber of artists who perform there. The rooftop deck, typically open with a full bar, gives attendees an outdoor escape between sets.

The building’s exposed brick walls and refurbished concrete stage give Terminal 5 a gritty industrial character that complements the diverse range of genres it hosts. From pounding EDM sets to intimate indie rock performances, the room’s acoustics and sightlines translate well across musical styles.

Notable Performances and Legacy

Since opening in 2007, Terminal 5 has hosted an extraordinary roster of artists. The National, Justice, Fatboy Slim, and Paul van Dyk were among the acts that helped christen the space in its opening season. Over the years, Bob Dylan performed there in 2010, and the venue has welcomed artists as varied as LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A., Arctic Monkeys, and Kendrick Lamar.

Terminal 5’s success as a touring stop has been recognized industry-wide, with the venue ranking among the top-selling mid-size clubs in the world. It remains a cornerstone of The Bowery Presents’ network of venues across the New York region and a must-play room on any major artist’s city itinerary.

If you’ve seen a giant glowing eyeball, a pulsing basketball, or the surface of the moon hovering over the Las Vegas Strip, you’ve met Sphere — the most jaw-dropping entertainment venue ever built. Since opening in September 2023, this 366-foot-tall, 516-foot-wide orb has redefined what a “show” can be, and it’s quickly become a bucket-list stop for thrill-seekers and experience-chasers alike.

A screen unlike anything on Earth

Sphere’s exterior — the Exosphere — is the largest LED screen on the planet, wrapping the entire dome in 580,000 square feet of programmable light. Inside, a 16K wraparound display curves around and above you, paired with a beamforming audio system that can make a whisper feel like it’s right next to your ear. It’s not a stage you watch; it’s a world you step into.

What you can experience

The flagship attraction, “Postcard from Earth,” takes you soaring across the planet’s landscapes with haptic seats and in-theater scents that make the immersion almost physical. On the music side, Sphere launched with a landmark U2 residency, followed by Dead & Company, the Eagles, Kenny Chesney, and more — concerts where the visuals are as much the show as the band.

Why it belongs on your thrill list

The Hammerstein Ballroom is a 35,000-square-foot concert hall occupying the upper floors of the Manhattan Center at 311 West 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Originally built in 1906 by Oscar Hammerstein I as the Manhattan Opera House — a direct rival to the Metropolitan Opera — the building passed through many hands over the following decades, serving as a vaudeville theater, a Scottish Rite Freemasonry temple, and a trade union headquarters before falling into disrepair by the 1970s.

The venue received a thorough renovation in 1997, emerging under its current name with its ornate hand-painted ceiling restored to its former glory. Since then the Hammerstein Ballroom has established itself as one of New York City’s premier mid-size concert destinations, capable of holding up to 2,000 fans for standing shows, thanks to a soaring 75-foot ceiling, three sweeping balconies, and a flat floor that maximizes sightlines from every angle.

Stats at a Glance

Location: 311 West 34th Street, Midtown Manhattan, New York City

Type: Concert hall / event venue

Building opened: 1906 (as Manhattan Opera House)

Renamed & renovated: 1997

Capacity: Up to 2,000 (concert); 2,500 (reception)

Floor area: 35,000 sq ft (about 3,300 m²)

Famous for: David Bowie’s final public performance, November 9, 2006

Architecture and Atmosphere

The Hammerstein Ballroom’s interior is among the most distinctive in New York City. A hand-painted ceiling mural stretches across a 75-foot-high vault, flanked by ornate woodwork and three balconies that ring the room at unusually low heights, placing even upper-level audience members in close proximity to the stage. Dozens of rigging points embedded in the ceiling give production teams generous options for lighting rigs, set pieces, and aerial décor, making the hall a favorite for elaborately staged tours and televised events.

The main floor is flat and open, adaptable from a general-admission standing pit to theater-style seating of around 2,000 or an intimate seated dinner for 1,000. That flexibility, combined with the room’s visual grandeur, has drawn rock and pop acts, professional wrestling promotions, esports tournaments, and broadcast specials over the years.

Legendary Moments on Stage

The Hammerstein Ballroom has been the backdrop for several landmark nights in music history. In 1997, Bryan Adams recorded his MTV Unplugged album here alongside students from the Juilliard School. Two years later, Britney Spears sold out the hall for her first-ever solo concert in New York City during the Baby One More Time Tour. In May 2006, Guns N’ Roses used the venue for four sold-out warm-up shows ahead of their Chinese Democracy world tour.

Perhaps the most poignant chapter came on November 9, 2006, when David Bowie stepped onstage at the annual Black Ball charity benefit — a Keep A Child Alive fundraiser — and performed three songs with pianist Mike Garson, closing with a duet of ‘Changes’ alongside Alicia Keys. It proved to be his final public performance of his own material, cementing the Hammerstein Ballroom’s place not just in New York concert history but in the broader story of rock and roll.

Capacity varies by configuration. The venue holds up to 2,000 for concerts and theatrical productions, up to 2,500 for receptions, and around 1,000 for seated dinners.

Nestled in the hillside of the University of California, Berkeley campus, the Hearst Greek Theatre is one of America’s most storied outdoor concert venues. Funded by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst and designed by architect John Galen Howard after the ancient theater at Epidaurus, the amphitheater opened on September 24, 1903, making it the longest-running outdoor amphitheater in the United States.

Over more than a century of operation, the Greek has welcomed an extraordinary roster of performers and public figures — from Theodore Roosevelt and Sarah Bernhardt in its early years to Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, and the Grateful Dead, who performed here an astounding 29 times between 1967 and 1989. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982, the venue remains a premier Bay Area concert destination managed by Another Planet Entertainment.

Photo by Dan Begel on Unsplash

Stats at a Glance

Location: 2001 Gayley Road, Berkeley, California

Type: Outdoor amphitheater

Opened: September 24, 1903

Capacity: 8,500 seats

Architect: John Galen Howard

Promoter: Another Planet Entertainment (since 2004)

Famous for: Grateful Dead (29 concerts, 1967–1989); Free Speech Movement rallies

The Concert Experience

Attending a show at the Hearst Greek Theatre is unlike almost any other concert experience in California. The natural hillside bowl creates superb acoustics, while the open sky and surrounding eucalyptus trees lend every performance an almost ceremonial atmosphere. With 8,500 seats carved into the slope, sightlines are consistently excellent from nearly every vantage point.

Another Planet Entertainment has promoted concerts at the venue since 2004, bringing in a wide variety of artists across rock, indie, folk, and world music. The Greek was also a pioneer in venue sustainability — it became the first major music venue to implement a full environmental program in 2006 and launched venue-wide composting the following year.

History and Legacy

The site had already been used as an informal outdoor gathering space — known as Ben Weed’s Amphitheater — since 1894, before Hearst’s donation transformed it into a permanent structure. Howard’s design drew directly from ancient Greek precedent, and the theater hosted graduation ceremonies and theatrical productions for the first half of the twentieth century, earning appearances from luminaries like soprano Sarah Bernhardt.

The 1960s marked a turning point, when the Greek became a focal point for the Free Speech Movement; Mario Savio led landmark protests here in 1964. The venue underwent a seismic retrofit in 2012, adding reinforced concrete columns to protect the historic structure. Today it stands as both a working concert hall and a living monument to Berkeley’s cultural and political history.

The Aragon Ballroom has been a cornerstone of Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood since it opened on July 15, 1926. Built by brothers Andrew and William Karzas at a cost of $2 million, the venue features a Spanish Baroque exterior designed by architects Huszagh and Hill, while the interior — crafted by movie palace designer John Eberson — evokes the courtyard of a Moorish castle. From its opening night, the Aragon was hailed as one of the most beautiful ballrooms in the world.

Over its century-long history, the Aragon has evolved from a big band dance hall — broadcasting nightly via WGN radio to audiences across North America — to one of Chicago’s premier rock and pop concert venues. Acts from Frank Sinatra and the Glenn Miller Orchestra to Nirvana, The Doors, and the Grateful Dead have taken the stage here. Today, Live Nation operates the venue under the name Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom, continuing to draw major touring acts to a distinctive space that holds up to 5,000 fans.

Photo: Warren LeMay from Chicago, IL, United States / CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Stats at a Glance

Location: 1106 W Lawrence Ave, Uptown, Chicago, Illinois

Type: Ballroom / Concert Venue

Opened: July 15, 1926

Capacity: Up to 5,000

Current Operator: Live Nation (since 2017)

Architects: Huszagh & Hill (exterior); John Eberson (interior)

Famous for: Moorish-castle interior and a century of live music

A Palace Inside a Ballroom

Walking into the Aragon Ballroom feels unlike any other concert venue in Chicago. John Eberson’s interior design conjures a Moorish castle courtyard complete with ornate plasterwork, tiled arches, and a ceiling painted to resemble a starlit Mediterranean sky. Eberson specialized in ‘atmospheric’ theater design, and the Aragon remains one of the most intact examples of that style in the United States.

The venue’s position on Lawrence Avenue in Uptown, with direct access to the Chicago L train, fueled its immediate success after opening. During its golden era in the late 1920s and 1930s, more than 18,000 guests visited each week, dancing to the biggest names of the big band era as shows were broadcast nationally and even heard in Europe.

From Big Band to Rock and Roll

The Aragon’s programming shifted dramatically over the decades. After its big band heyday, the venue briefly operated as the Cheetah Club from 1966 to 1968 before returning to its identity as a concert hall. By the 1990s it had become a key stop on the rock touring circuit, hosting legendary sets from Nirvana, The Pixies, The White Stripes, the Grateful Dead, and The Doors.

Live Nation’s acquisition in 2017 secured the venue’s future as a major mid-size destination. Now branded as Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom, it hosts a mix of English and Spanish-language pop and rock concerts year-round, keeping one of Chicago’s most architecturally striking spaces filled with music fans.

The Paramount Theatre opened on March 1, 1928, at 901 Pine Street in downtown Seattle, Washington. Built by Paramount Pictures with an investment of nearly $3 million led by Adolph Zukor, it debuted as the Seattle Theatre before being renamed the Paramount in 1930. Designed by the renowned Chicago firm Rapp & Rapp, the venue was hailed by the Seattle Times as “a magnificent cathedral of entertainment” and quickly became one of the most striking movie palaces on the West Coast.

After financial struggles in the 1980s and early 1990s, the theatre was purchased by former Microsoft vice president Ida Cole and underwent an eight-month restoration before reopening on March 17, 1995, with a production of Miss Saigon. In 2002, ownership transferred to the Seattle Theatre Group, a nonprofit that continues to operate the Paramount today. The venue now seats 2,807 and hosts an eclectic mix of Broadway productions, live concerts, comedy, dance, and family programming.

Location: 901 Pine Street, Seattle, WA

Type: Performing Arts & Live Music Venue

Opened: March 1, 1928

Original Name: Seattle Theatre

Capacity: 2,807 seats

Architect: Rapp & Rapp (Chicago)

Operator: Seattle Theatre Group (nonprofit)

Famous for: Nirvana’s Halloween 1991 concert; original Wurlitzer pipe organ

Historic Stage and Famous Nights

The Paramount holds the distinction of being the first venue in the United States to install a convertible floor system, allowing the orchestra level to transform into a ballroom. Among its most celebrated moments was a Halloween night concert by Nirvana on October 31, 1991, later released as a live album. The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia performed at the Paramount nine times over his career — four with the Grateful Dead and five with the Jerry Garcia Band and Legion of Mary.

The theatre is also home to an original Wurlitzer pipe organ — a four-manual, 21-rank Publix 1 instrument — which still graces the stage during Silent Movie Mondays, connecting modern audiences to the venue’s vaudeville and silent-film roots.

Architecture and Landmark Status

Designed by Rapp & Rapp, the same firm behind Chicago’s storied Chicago Theatre, the Paramount is a prime example of lavish 1920s movie-palace architecture. Its interior features ornate plasterwork, gold leaf detailing, and grand chandeliers that were meticulously restored during the 1995 renovation.

The venue was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 19, 1974, and received Seattle Landmark designation on February 13, 1995. The iconic marquee — which once blazed with nearly 2,000 incandescent bulbs — was upgraded to LED lighting by 2009 while preserving its vintage appearance.

With a capacity of around 23,000, it ranks among the largest indoor arenas in Europe and draws over 1.2 million visitors a year across more than 130 events.

A Venue With Many Names

The arena has operated under several names since it opened as the NYNEX Arena in 1995. It became the Manchester Evening News Arena — widely known as the MEN Arena — in 1998, then Phones 4u Arena from 2013 to 2015, before reverting to plain Manchester Arena. In September 2020, online electrical retailer AO.com secured a naming-rights deal, giving the venue its current identity.

In 2001, trade publication Pollstar ranked it the busiest indoor arena in the world by ticket sales, and it has consistently ranked among the world’s top-performing venues ever since — a record that still stands more than two decades later.

Beyond the Music

The AO Arena has always been more than a concert hall. It hosted the swimming events at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and served as a warm-up venue for USA vs. Great Britain basketball ahead of the 2012 Olympics. The arena has also been a regular home for major boxing, staging bouts featuring Mike Tyson, David Haye, Joe Calzaghe, Ricky Hatton, and Amir Khan.

A £50 million redevelopment program launched in 2022 doubled the standing floor capacity to around 6,200 and is set to push overall capacity toward 24,000, reinforcing the venue’s standing as one of Europe’s leading indoor entertainment destinations.

AO Arena FAQs

What is the capacity of the AO Arena?

The AO Arena currently holds around 23,000 people. An ongoing £50 million renovation begun in 2022 aims to grow this toward 24,000, with standing floor capacity already doubled to approximately 6,200.

When did the AO Arena open and where does the name come from?

The venue opened on 15 July 1995 as the NYNEX Arena. It took on the AO Arena name in September 2020 following a sponsorship deal with online electrical retailer AO.com — just one of several naming-rights changes over its 30-year history.

Where exactly is the AO Arena located?

The AO Arena sits at Victoria Station in central Manchester, England, partly constructed in air rights space above the station itself. It is a short walk from Manchester city centre and served by rail, tram, and bus links.

Le Bataclan — at 50 Boulevard Voltaire in Paris’s 11th arrondissement — is one of Europe’s most iconic concert halls. With a standing capacity of approximately 1,500 (and a total licensed maximum of 1,694), the venue has been drawing adventurous audiences since 1865, when it opened as the Grand Café Chinois in a lavish Chinoiserie building designed by architect Charles Duval.

What makes the Bataclan so enduring is its refusal to be pigeonholed. From 19th-century vaudeville and operetta to 1970s punk, 1990s alternative, and 21st-century hip-hop, the venue has always lived slightly ahead of convention — and its intimate proportions ensure that even a sold-out night feels personal.

Quick Answer: What Is the Bataclan’s Capacity?

The Bataclan’s capacity is approximately 1,500 for standing concerts — the figure most commonly cited by the venue’s operator AEG Europe and major ticketing platforms. Its total licensed maximum capacity is 1,694. The difference reflects the venue’s flexible layout: a general-admission standing floor (pit) paired with a reserved-seat balcony that can be opened or closed depending on the event.

Venue at a Glance

Address: 50 Boulevard Voltaire, 75011 Paris, France. Capacity: approximately 1,500 (standing configuration) / 1,694 (maximum). Type: Concert hall and performance venue. Opened: February 3, 1865. Architect: Charles Duval (Chinoiserie style). Historic Monument: Listed 1991. Current operator: AEG Europe / Paris Entertainment Company. Programming: Rock, pop, hip-hop, metal, electronic, and comedy.

Inside the Bataclan: Layout and Atmosphere

The Bataclan is built around a main standing floor — a general-admission pit where the crowd presses close to the stage — and an upper balcony offering reserved seating with clear sightlines. For most concerts, the venue operates at its standing capacity of around 1,500, which is the figure you’ll most often see on ticketing sites and in press coverage. The higher figure of 1,694 represents the hall’s maximum licensed capacity when every configuration is in use.

Its intimacy is a feature, not an accident. Artists and audiences alike describe Bataclan shows as unusually electric — partly because of the tight sightlines and partly because the hall’s 160-year history hangs in the air. Even a big touring act feels like a club gig here. Practical notes: the venue gets very warm during sold-out shows, so dress accordingly. A coat check is available for a small fee. The bar accepts card and cash. Water bottles with removable caps are allowed in, but caps are removed at entry. A single main exit corridor can create congestion right after a headline set.

Getting to the Bataclan

The nearest metro station is Oberkampf (Lines 5 and 9), roughly a three-minute walk along Boulevard Voltaire. Filles du Calvaire (Line 8) is about four minutes away. Bus lines 20, 56, and 96 serve the boulevard directly. There is no dedicated parking, so public transport is strongly recommended. Tickets can be purchased through the venue’s official ticketing site at billetterie.bataclan.fr or through major third-party platforms including Fnac Spectacles and Bandsintown.

History: From Grand Café Chinois to Rock Temple

Designed by Charles Duval and opened on February 3, 1865, the Bataclan originally operated as a grand café-concert in Chinoiserie style — complete with a pagoda roof — under the name Grand Café Chinois. Its name references Jacques Offenbach’s comic operetta Ba-ta-clan (1855), which itself played on the French expression tout le bataclan, meaning a chaotic jumble of everything. Early programming leaned on vaudeville, operetta, and variety; stars such as Maurice Chevalier and Édith Piaf performed there in the early 20th century.

A fire damaged the building in 1933, and partial demolition followed in 1950. After a stint as a cinema, live music returned and rock programming took hold in earnest in the early 1970s. The pagoda roofline is gone, but Chinoiserie decorative elements inside survived and were restored during renovations in 2006 and 2016. The hall was officially listed as a Monument historique in 1991, cementing its protected status under French law.

Milestone Performances and Live Recordings

The Bataclan’s status as a rock landmark was established quickly after its 1970s pivot. Lou Reed, John Cale, and Nico performed there in 1972 — a show long circulated as a bootleg before its official release as Le Bataclan ’72 in 2004. The Ramones gave their first-ever French concert on its stage in 1977; The Cure made their French debut there in 1979. Through the 1980s and 1990s, Genesis, Dream Theater, and Jeff Buckley all passed through.

Two officially released live albums cemented the Bataclan’s place in music history: Jeff Buckley’s Live from the Bataclan EP (recorded February 1995) and Dream Theater’s Once in a LIVEtime (1998). Both capture the venue’s intimate, high-voltage atmosphere and remain reference recordings for fans. The hall’s programming has always been eclectic — its founders wrote freedom from convention into its DNA — which is why it continues to attract cutting-edge acts across rock, metal, hip-hop, and electronic genres more than 160 years on.

Resilience After November 2015

On November 13, 2015, the Bataclan became the site of the deadliest of a series of coordinated terrorist attacks across Paris. Three ISIL-affiliated gunmen entered the hall during an Eagles of Death Metal concert and opened fire, killing 91 people and wounding more than 200 others. The tragedy devastated the global music community and briefly put the venue’s future in doubt.

Exactly one year later, on November 12, 2016, the Bataclan reopened with a benefit concert by Sting. Proceeds went to the families of victims, and the evening was widely understood as an act of collective defiance. Today the hall operates a full season of concerts, standing as both a living music venue and a monument to Paris’s capacity for recovery.

Bataclan Paris FAQs

What is the Bataclan’s capacity?

The Bataclan’s standing capacity is approximately 1,500 — the figure most commonly cited by the venue’s operator and ticketing platforms. Its total maximum licensed capacity is 1,694. Most shows are general-admission standing events on the main floor, with the upper balcony providing additional reserved seating depending on the event configuration.

What is the Bataclan’s capacity in seated vs standing configurations?

The Bataclan runs the vast majority of its concerts as standing events with a capacity of around 1,500. When the upper balcony’s reserved seating is fully included, the venue’s maximum capacity reaches 1,694. Configuration details vary by event, so check individual show listings for specifics.

Where is the Bataclan located?

The Bataclan is at 50 Boulevard Voltaire in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, France (75011). The nearest metro station is Oberkampf (Lines 5 and 9), about a three-minute walk away.

How do I get to the Bataclan?

Take metro Line 5 or Line 9 to Oberkampf station (3-minute walk), or Line 8 to Filles du Calvaire (4-minute walk). Bus lines 20, 56, and 96 also stop on Boulevard Voltaire. Driving is not recommended due to limited parking in the area.

What happened at the Bataclan in November 2015?

On November 13, 2015, three gunmen attacked the venue during an Eagles of Death Metal concert, killing 91 people and wounding more than 200. It was the deadliest single site in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks across Paris that night.

When did the Bataclan reopen after the 2015 attacks?

The Bataclan reopened on November 12, 2016 — almost exactly one year after the attacks — with a benefit concert by Sting. Revenue from the show went to the families of victims.

How do I buy tickets for the Bataclan?

Tickets are available through the venue’s official platform at billetterie.bataclan.fr and through third-party ticketing sites including Fnac Spectacles and Bandsintown.

Music Hall of Williamsburg, at 66 North 6th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY 11211, is one of New York City’s most celebrated mid-size concert venues. With a 650-person standing-room capacity, it has hosted everyone from early-career indie acts to surprise arena headliners — all in a room where no one stands more than a few dozen feet from the stage.

Operated by The Bowery Presents (an AEG company), the venue traces its roots to 2001, when it opened as Northsix and helped catalyze Brooklyn’s live-music renaissance. In December 2025, The Bowery Presents announced the venue will close at the end of 2026 after the building’s owners declined to renew the lease — making every remaining show a farewell to one of New York’s defining cultural spaces.

Quick Answer

Music Hall of Williamsburg is a 650-capacity, standing-room-only concert hall at 66 North 6th Street (66 N. Sixth St.), Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY 11211, operated by The Bowery Presents under AEG. It is a 5-minute walk from the L train’s Bedford Avenue station and is scheduled to close at the end of 2026.

Venue Stats at a Glance

Full address: 66 N 6th St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY 11211. Capacity: 650 standing-room. Opened: Spring 2001 as Northsix; renamed Music Hall of Williamsburg in 2007. Operator: The Bowery Presents / AEG. Nearest subway: Bedford Av (L train), roughly a 5-minute walk. Closing: End of 2026.

History: From Northsix to Brooklyn Icon

The building at 66 North 6th Street first opened its doors to live music in spring 2001 as Northsix. Within its first year it earned the Village Voice’s Best New Rock Club award (2002) and took both Best Rock Club and Best Williamsburg Music Venue in the New York Press readers’ poll the same year — remarkable recognition for a brand-new room. Northsix arrived just as Williamsburg was emerging as a creative hub, and the venue became the anchor of a Brooklyn live-music scene that had previously existed only in fragments.

In early 2007, The Bowery Presents acquired the space and commissioned architects Brian Swier and Michael Costantin to overhaul the interior. The renovation added bar areas and lounge-style cocktail seating on multiple floors and installed the room acoustics that touring engineers still praise today. The rechristened Music Hall of Williamsburg reopened as a flagship of the Bowery Presents network — which AEG purchased in 2017. Today, AEG’s umbrella makes it sister venue to properties across North America and Europe, yet the room has lost none of its neighborhood character.

The hall carries a small but vivid place in pop-culture history: its lobby (then still called Northsix) appears in the opening scene of the 2003 film School of Rock. More poignantly, Elliott Smith performed some of his final New York shows here in June 2003, just months before his death — a legacy the venue has honored ever since.

Capacity and Layout

The Music Hall of Williamsburg capacity is 650 people, all standing. The main floor’s general-admission pit faces a low, wide stage, while upper-level bar balconies wrap around the room to deliver sight lines from multiple angles. Because it is entirely standing-room, even late-arriving concertgoers are rarely more than 75 feet from the performers — a sightline many 400-cap clubs can’t match.

That Williamsburg music hall capacity of 650 occupies a rare sweet spot: large enough to accommodate a full production (touring sound systems, lighting rigs, a real FOH position) but small enough that an artist can hold eye contact with the crowd. It is precisely why internationally famous acts choose this room for secret shows and residencies rather than booking a larger NYC hall — the intimacy is the point.

Legendary Performances

The venue’s reputation for surprise and intimate headliner shows is unmatched in New York. Kendrick Lamar played an unannounced set in 2016 that turned North 6th Street into a citywide flashpoint. Harry Styles performed here in 2020 before his solo touring career reached arena scale. Deftones took the stage in 2023, and Coldplay staged a rare club-sized show in 2024 — each night brief enough to sell out in minutes but long enough to become lasting legend.

Through the end of 2026, The Bowery Presents has pledged to make the final year count, booking a mix of rising talent and returning favorites. Current upcoming shows are listed at bowerypresents.com/music-hall-of-williamsburg and on ticketing platforms including Ticketmaster, JamBase, and Songkick.

The Final Year: Closing at the End of 2026

On December 17, 2025, The Bowery Presents announced that Music Hall of Williamsburg would lose its home at 66 North 6th Street after the building’s owners elected not to renew the venue’s lease. The announcement triggered an outpouring of tributes from artists, engineers, and fans who credit the room with shaping their musical lives — a rare testament to how much a single 650-person hall can mean to a city.

Despite the impending closure, the venue continues to operate a near-nightly show schedule through the end of 2026. The Bowery Presents has described the final stretch as a celebration: a last extended run of the intimate, surprise-filled programming that made Music Hall of Williamsburg famous. If you have never caught a show here, 2026 is the last chance to experience what a generation of New York music fans considers irreplaceable.
